SPC Nursing students??All B student

U.S.A. Florida

So I am going to apply to SPC's RN program for the Jan 2010 semester. I have everything but my Micro/Lab finished. I know they look at your GPA from certain classes and I have all B's in those classes. If I get an A in my micro classes, do you think they will even consider me for enterance into the program? I know how picky they are! has anyone gotten into the program with a 3.1 GPA or anything? I am kind of putting all my eggs in this one basket! Thanks in advance!!!

Great question! I'll be applying soon and even though I have a 3.3 GPA right now without having completed Ethics (doing this summer) and Statistics, if I make an A in both those classes I should have a 3.4 or 3.5. Curious to see the responses. Who are you taking for Micro? I just finished taking it online and made an A in both classes - not easy to do

I have not signed up yet for micro, but it will have to be a campus class vs. online. The availability during the summer SUCKS! I am going to meet with an advisor next wednesday and I am going to ask her all this stuff. I just don't know how picky they are! I am a good student.. but are they looking for GREAT 3.8, 4.0 students? I am kind of freaking out about it all ya know?!? Do you know if you have to take that "TEAS" enterance exam before you get into the program? I know a lot of other nursing programs have you do it ( it is like a shorter ACT/SAT test that takes like 3 hours!) I will let you know what they say when I meet with them next week :)

Have you looked into the Morton Plant EAYL program? Keep me updated!

I've just turned in my application for the Jan 2010 Nursing program. I have not taken Micro/Lab either, but have a 3.75 and the advisor I spoke with said my chances were not the greatest. It's very disappointing, but worth a try anyway.

I called the information line for the EAYL program, but they don't have their next job fair info yet. It sounds alright, but to give them 3 years without any decision making sounds scary. Let me know if you find anything out.

So I have been looking around on these boards a lot lately and it looks like people with 3.8 GPA are even getting turned down! You would think they were looking for doctors with the 4.0 GPA and criteria they are looking for! So I am going to apply anyways just for laughs and also apply for the PTEC LPN program. It is only 16 months and then I can move right into the bridge program at SPC. Good luck to you!!!

I'm taking micro and lab online next semester. Did it seem difficult online? Any advice? Thanks

No, it didn't seem to be difficult to take online, just read and read and take notes. She gives study guides for the exams, make sure you answer the questions and review the quizzes - she uses some quiz questions on her exams. The lab is pretty straight-forward, and a couple of the experiments are actually hands on using yeast and kitchen supplies. She's great at answering emails fast, and is descriptive and to the point in her answers. Also, make sure you do the extra credit questions - that really helps in the end. It brought me up from a 94 to a 97 in her lecture class, and if you're borderline B-A it can bring you to that A you really need. Feel free to PM me anytime next semester.

You got into the program for Aug correct? I've applied for Jan, but like you I won't have micro done in time for the application deadline. :-( I'm still crossing my fingers though. Were you an alternate or not even considered because of micro?

Thanks for the info...I've taken A&P 1 and 2 online and they were pretty easy, but I'm sure Micro is a completely different animal.

No, I haven't applied to the program yet because I'm still lacking Statistics (yuck) and I'm pregnant and due in the fall. So, this puts me back a couple of semesters, but I'm hoping to apply for next fall and maybe get in. I was talking to someone that goes to USF and she said that they accept applicants with lower GPAs - not quite sure how true that is, but if I don't get accepted at SPC or the EAYL program at Morton Plant I might look into going across the bay. I also thought A&P 1 & 2 were easy - took it online and managed A's in both classes...Micro is totally different and I did have a harder time with it, but it was still managable and I made an A. Have you taken Statistics yet? I'm looking to take that online in the spring.

Definitely YUCK on statistics. I took it a few years ago at Univ of Tampa so I can't be much help on professor advice :-( I had Byrne also for A&P..pretty easy class. Have you gotten any info on that EAYL program? I've heard that it can help you get accepted and someone else said you have to be accepted first and then apply. Not sure which is true. Their information line doesnt say anything about it really.

Congrats on the pregnancy!!!
