SPC Nursing students??All B student

So I am going to apply to SPC's RN program for the Jan 2010 semester. I have everything but my Micro/Lab finished. I know they look at your GPA from certain classes and I have all B's in those classes. If I get an A in my micro classes, do you think they will even consider me for enterance into the program? I know how picky they are! has anyone gotten into the program with a 3.1 GPA or anything? I am kind of putting all my eggs in this one basket! Thanks in advance!!!

flg8r36....I did look at both options when I was in your shoes, and if you add up all the months, between lpn and rn...and then add them both together.....it is faster if you just go the RN route. I'm speaking from experience...sit down and put them together...it's faster just getting into an rn program in the first place.

i totally agree with you on that, it's just getting IN to an RN program that is difficult. by knocking out the LPN and applying to the bridge, you can save sometimes years of waiting .... i know .... i've been waiting for SPC and PHCC for the past 2 years .... time is ticking :innerconf i'm tired of waiting and really don't want to go to a private school and spend 3 times what i could at SPC.

what session are you an alternate for? are all of your pre-req's completed now that you have been chosen as an alternate or are you still lacking some? thanks for all the info also. i have a 3.8, but lacking micro, so i'll prob have to wait until fall :-(

i'm an alternate for starting this fall, 2009, and yes...i've finished all pre-req's...to be competitive for a direct seat, you'll need to finish micro. you may be able to get in via eayl though, but when i've interviewed for these positions, the first question they asked is if i've completed all my pre-req's.

micro's not so hard, just make sure you study your pants off for the first exam...i mean, like crazy...that's the tough one...if you don't do well on it, take the 'w', if you nail it, you're good to go, just keep studying.

just wanted to tell you that when i applied my alternate # was 50 and i got in. thought there was no hope, but 2 weeks before the semester started, i got the call. good luck to you!

Ok, well, I've been reading through this thread and don't get discouraged!

I start Aug. 2009 for the SPC nursing program. I was accepted in the first 70% , but I have a GPA of 3.2 and a science GPA of 3.5. I do have my AA degree and I do have Micro and Statistics done. So you don't have to have a 3.8 or above to get in. Also they look at SAT scores (if you have any).

I guess you don't have to have Micro and Stats done right away, but it definitely ups your chances if you do have them. I'm saying this because in my orientation class they had students who hadn't taken these two classes and simply said they need to have them done before Nursing 4. So I guess you can still get in without having them completed.

Also, you can go the route of LPN transition but it does take a long time... And the cost! I mean the RN program is considerably less than any LPN program I have seen lately. And you get so much more for your moneys worth.

Also, EAYL is an excellent program! I didn't get in personally, but I definitely tried! You do sign a contract for 3 years, but what they give you is so helpful! You get a stipend a job that is flexible and consider your classes. Plus they extra hands on experience. So yea, you work for them for 3 years, but really I've heard that it's not quite a good idea to job hop around so really your'e guaranteed a spot right out of school!

Also, they have what they call "expansion" group. It's through Northside, Largo Medical Center, and Bay Pines... They don't really offer much money wise, but you do get a seat... They interview about a couple weeks after EAYL...

Wow! Thanks for the info, ATDanchor! So the EAYL program offered by Morton Plant is getting harder to get into? What are they looking for, and how many spots do they offer?

You don't exactly have to have gotten into the SPC nursing program. I know many people who weren't accepted this semester or were alternates and where applying. You do have to meet ALL the requirements for the SPC program. Basically about a month before the program you go for an interview. Keep calling the number and checking with it.

I went over to SPC today and spoke with advisor "*" to find out what was going on with my application for the LPN to RN evening program because I had not heard anything or received any letters in the mail yet. There was a problem with my transcripts posting. I got in!!!!!!!!!!! Finally!!!!!!!!! See my saga on the following thread:

The advisor "*" and two other advisors who were in the office too told me that more letters for all nursing program options are going out this week. Wonder if that means orientation packets too?

wooohooo good for you GTLPN! way to go, and way to keep checking when you knew something wasn't right!

I'm an alternate, YAY, better than nothing:up:. I was told by the end of July (I forget the exact date they said) I'll know for sure, unless someone drops out at the last minute, then of course it could be after the end of July.

Since I know someone will ask... I have a 3.8 gpa and I do not have micro or lab done, when I applied I was in the middle of taking AP II, and that is why I am an alternate. I am currently taking the online micro and micro lab.

So happy to have some real input! Will have finished all but 1 or 2 of my pre-reqs this fall - enough to apply for the Fall 2010 session. The last courses will be in the Spring - so I'm hoping!

Hi!

This fall I have - A & P II, Psych, and Speech. Though I may move Speech to the Spring with Micro and add Statistics this fall. IF I can test out of Intermediate Algebra.

Where can I learn more about these EAYL programs?

What have you got left? On-line or on-site?

It would be cool to already know someone when we started! (See thinking positively!!)
