SPC Nursing students??All B student

Published

So I am going to apply to SPC's RN program for the Jan 2010 semester. I have everything but my Micro/Lab finished. I know they look at your GPA from certain classes and I have all B's in those classes. If I get an A in my micro classes, do you think they will even consider me for enterance into the program? I know how picky they are! has anyone gotten into the program with a 3.1 GPA or anything? I am kind of putting all my eggs in this one basket! Thanks in advance!!!

I went over there today. They have 90 some spots, 50 alternate spots and had over 400 applicants. They will let you know which number you are on the list if you ask. I have a 3.8 and also taking micro and I'm number 4...so you prob are at the top of the alt. list. She said last semester the top 9 got in and after the EAYL program selects candidates a few spots could open up. Good Luck and keep us posted.

ugh, so stressful! I have about a year left and I'm freaking out!! lol ugh..one day at time.. i guess lol good luck to you guys! I don't know what I'm going to do when I'm in your shoes!! I hope to also go the EAYL route

I'm in Nursing II, I started Spring '09. When I applied in July I waited forever b/c at the last minute I did the computer test thingy. I almost didn't get in because of that. I was in the 30% pool and had a GPA of 3.84 and got accepted. I wanted to do EAYL but slept through the interview :( Anyway I just wanted to recommend ***** ******** for stats if you haven't taken it. Tons of extra credit...you will get an A. My best friend Gabby had a 3.0 and she was an alternate and now shes at the top of our class with me and others on the A team. Every semester is different but I am optimistic for you guys. The main reason I am posing is to tell you that if you get to choose your NurI instructor....choose *******, you will not regret it. You will be sooo prepared for Fluid and Electrolytes/ Cardiac and her lectures will help you in the long haul, not just in I. Plus she is awesome and compassionate, not at all mean or demanding. Hope everthing woks out for all of you .

What computer test? I think you have to have statistics done before you enter the program

no, you don't have to have stats done. One of my classmates from NurI did it after last semester, during the summer. The computer literacy test thing. It's worth like one credit if you have to take it in class. I just looked through your other posts and you had referred to it before. You don't have to take it as a course, you can test out of it.

Now they like you to have everything completed before entry, at least that is what I was told when I went today to find out where I was on the alternate list and was told 12th because I don't have Stats and Micro done ( but currently taking). I don't really believe all what I was told though.... How can they penalize people on something that is not a requirement?!?! When I know for a fact people in my micro got through a 1st pool.... I was told it doesn't matter as much about your GPA (even if it is a 4.0) as long as someone else has taken one more class than you (not in those words but that was the jist).... So good luck to all that will apply in the future and are on the alternate list because I don't understand their system.

I agree, the system is wacky. I'm on the alt list as well because I don't have micro done. I've talked to several other people who also don't have micro done and got through on the 1st pool. I think what kills each years "new applicants" is that the 50 alternates (or however many are left) that didn't make the previous session are automatically accepted for the next term regardless if a new applicant has more points. That right there takes up more than half of the spots. She told me that 9 alternates got accepted for this past fall, but the year before that all 50 got calls. It's hard to know what to believe. GOod luck to you.

flg8tr36- i would try contacting spc or meeting with an advisor at their healthcare facility to get more information. or you can try contacting hr at largo med to get more info. spc mailed out an additional letter along with the acceptance or rejection letter inviting you to participate in these expansion programs. they gave you the date of the info session and told you there'd be on-sight interviews if you were interested after hearing about the options. the hospitals that participated in the expansion programs that i interviewed for were largo medical center, baypines va, and northside. all of them are a little bit different. i think you have to have all of your pre-reqs completed in order to be eligible to interview.

scrapworking- i brought a letter of recommendation from one of my doctors that i've had for the past 10yrs or so. it may have looked better since it was from a healthcare professional, but i'm not sure. a teacher's letter would work too, i'm sure! they seemed to happily accept anything, so it couldn't have hurt! good luck!!

i just wanted to say "thank you" to you. after your advice from here and much hard work and determination, i was finally accepted to the baycare eayl - lpn program :yeah:

i completely forgot about what you said in this post about bringing in letter of recommendations to the interview. i did not do so for my first interview, but did tell them that my family doc - who has known me for the past 25+ years now - said they could call him as a reference, as his office staff/nurses actually were the ones who helped me along the way to pursue this new journey in my life.

at the second interview, my old boss, who happens to be a former mayor, told me that he wanted to send me in a letter of recommendation - i didn't even ask. i brought it along with me to my second interview and they called him the minute i left the interview! i would have to agree that any letter of recommendation would make you stand out. i was told at the second interview i would hear back from them in a few weeks. ...... i left the interview at 2pm and was offered the job at 4pm that same day!

thanks again :icon_hug:

SPC is so dumb in their selection process....that is why I am so excited about the EAYL thing. I have been preparing for it for the past 2 weeks! Is anyone else wearing a suit on Friday??? I am getting so nervous!!!! OMG.....

How are you preparing? Do you have letters of recommendation? I was reading the previous post and she was talking about that..I suppose I could get one, but it's a little last minute. Ugh. Yes, on the suit. Well my husband was asking..."where's the jacket" but I had to explain that it was the new style for ladies suits. He's so funny.

I was told there is no waiting list by the advisor I spoke to that each time we have to reapply even if we are alternates or not.

opps was posting it twice
