Every so often I'll hear lyrics on songs on the radio that remind me of nursing... Here's a couple of examples I've heard on the radio recently, unfortunately I can't remember who sings either of 'em...:monkeydance:
"I am barely breathing, and I can't find the air..."
"I have become, comfortably numb..."
Anyone got any more?
O.A.R. - Night Shift
"Its 3 a.m., I wanna go to bed
I got a lady running through my head
Ran outta money, i'm lookin for a night shift
It's 3 a.m. and i wanna go to bed"
The Verve- Bittersweet Symphony
"Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life
Trying to make ends meet
Trying to find some money then you die"
Live- Lightning Crashes
"The angel opens her eyes
The confusion sets in
Before the doctor can even close the door"
And finally, I worked as a CNA in a home for handicapped kids, and there was one child who would only smile if his Veggie Tales cd was playing on repeat. The most EVIL song on there (because it was always stuck in my head for days) went like this:
"I am a C
I am a C-H
I am a C-H-R-I-S-T-I-A-N
And I have C-H-R-I-S-T in my H-E-A-R-T
And I will L-I-V-E E-T-E-R-N-A-L-L-Y"
(Repeat faster and faster until the staff is jamming sharp objects into their ears)
Well...I'm still a nursing student, but I have a summer CNA job in a nursing home. I usually listen to the country station on my trips to and from work, and for some reason, the line in the Kenny Chesney song "Shiftwork" that refers to a customer as being a "round-the-clock-pain" never fails to remind me of a couple of residents
Not that there aren't some nice residents, too, but you know what I mean...
I remember a song that I sang to my patient. It was a busy shift. I was up for a labor but not really wanted to have one because I was already tired from previous births that day. It was out of the blue I sang infront of the patient " I've been waiting for a girl like you to walk into my life"... every one in the birth room was laughing so hard as well as the patient.
I'm 3/4s way done with my first year of nursing school and the first time i heard this song i immediately put it with nursing...
Hurry up and wait
So close, but so far away
Everything that you've always dreamed of
Close enough for you to taste
But you just can't touch
You wanna show the world, but no one knows your name yet
Wonder when and where and how you're gonna make it
You know you can if you get the chance
In your face as the door keeps slamming
Now you're feeling more and more frustrated
And you're getting all kind of impatient waiting
[Chorus:]
We live and we learn to take
One step at a time
There's no need to rush
It's like learning to fly
Or falling in love
It's gonna happen and it's
Supposed to happen and we
Find the reasons why
One step at a time
You believe and you doubt
You're confused, you got it all figured out
Everything that you always wished for
Could be yours, should be yours, would be yours
If they only knew
You wanna show the world, but no one knows your name yet
Wonder when and where and how you're gonna make it
You know you can if you get the chance
In your face as the door keeps slamming
Now you're feeling more and more frustrated
And you're getting all kind of impatient waiting
[Chorus]
When you can't wait any longer
But there's no end in sight
when you need to find the strength
It's your faith that makes you stronger
The only way you get there
Is one step at a time
