  1. Been there done that. It is so true.
  2. You know you are a nurse when you answer your own cell phone, "This is the nursery. I'm RNSC. How can I help you today?" Its happened more times than I can count.
  3. You know you are a NICU nurse when the scrawny little preemies,(you know the ones that look like naked baby birds) are cuter to you than the full term chubby cheek "normal" baby
  4. Nursing is so mean! I had to work valentine eve! How was I to make myself beautiful for the Holiday if I don't have time to prepare?! My boyfriend might propose. Nursing is so unfair about holidays. "sniffle"
  5. Oh I don't know. Haven't you ever had a patient you've been working with forever finally get "unstuck" as it were? Or maybe she has receive a compliment. I was drowning last week in paperwork, patients, parents, phones and physcians. I felt I was going down for the third time when a parent asked me if I was back in the morning. When I said yes she replied, "Good. 'cause when you're here I don't have to worry about my son. You take such good care of him." I can tell you at that moment, I didn't care what my scrubbed looked like and I probably was grinning like an idiot.
  6. LOL I don't have to been there done wore the scrubs
  7. I hope its pudding but I doubt it
  8. "Now I have on my personnel file a complaint of harassment." Oh please Lord in Heaven save us from such idiots. Please come with in my unit. We need a sunny can do person like you to balance some of the grumps. Myself included on some days.
  9. Some of ya'll should write your stories or at least blog. I would love to hear how police officers become nurses or soliders or engineers or whatever. I actually see aspects of nursing in many professions. I get creative with wound care; reverse engerineering whatever was done previously to that ostomy. How many times have I had to play security, lawyer and Major Houlihan with parents and docs? As for me, what would I be? A writer.
  10. I'm a space cadet; ADD without the H. I work Level 2 Nursery and NICU. I find that it's easier to focus on the 1-3 babies and families than a wingful as I did in Med-Surg. And if something "intense" happens the hyperfocus of ADD without the hypeactivity is a bonus. Adenaline surge doesn't hurt either. good luck
  11. "Code Pink"
  12. I agree Phlavyah and as for management well its it's own kind of bully. Not individually necessarily but as an organic system (remember abnormal psych?). They bully us with staffing, money, resources, patients etc. It's hard to see what their staff is doing when they doing the same thing.
  13. Have you seen this video?
  14. Doesn't pushing Fentanyl risk chest wall paralysis? I seem to remember this happening in the NICU. The baby was vented but had no chest rise. It was a tough couple of minutes.
  15. What a great job you have. You could be such a great help to the floor nurses if you got over being bored and got your nose out of the computer. I'm sure there is more you could be doing if you just asked or dug a little. I'm not trying to be judgemently but as a floor nurse sometimes I'm too busy to call the house sup and wonder why she doesn't magically appear. Not fair but true. Are you ADD? Are you taking meds or seeing someone? As someone who suffers I recognize the work and emotional symptoms. Good luck You've already had some good advise from others. Please let us know what happens.
