A morning where I have a patient with a gunshot wound crying for his mom d/t pain, another who has approximately 3 days to live and the family is all in tears, a man who's waiting for his discharge papers, and a brand new post op that's being wheeled onto the floor... I'm sorry, but please don't give me attitude for not being able to paint your toenails...
Can you believe that? I hardly have time to sit and this woman is upset with me for not finding the time to paint her toenails. A hospital is a hospital not a hotel, not a day spa. What are some of these people thinking??? :trout:
Anyways that was my venting for the day. A pointless post, but now that I got that off my chest I feel better already :)
Wen83, I feel your pain. So often I feel the same. Unfortunately, hospital administration encourages this type of behavior by stressing customer service and guest relations, not nursing care
I totally agree!! They want to act as if it is a 5 star hotel instead of a hospital. No matter what you say or do, with some patients, it will never be enough.
Personally, I just got home from the shift from "heck"....lots of needy patients, wanting things I just don't have TIME to provide for you right now....and a seeking woman who was screaming "IM CHOKING! (on phleghm)" Honey, if you can scream, and keep asking me to stay with you for 15 mins at a time, you're not choking.....she didn't like me after I told her talking = not choking.....
We actually had a pt a few weeks ago that was nearly inconsolable because she was in a private room. What?! Sorry, lady, all our rooms are private! She actually wanted someone in there constantly to chat with. She said "I like having a roommate to talk to and watch tv with!"
Not from an ECF either. Needless to say, she was on the call light constantly, for "pull up my blankets" and "bring me some COLDER water" and blah blah blah. I felt almost glad that she didnt have a roommate to torture!

It's because of people like that, that when I'm in the hospital, I request a private room. If she had time to be sociable, she probably didn't need to be there.
