So who do nurses marry or have as civil partners???

Nurses General Nursing

Published

This post is meant as a bit of light relief and certainly not meant to be taken too seriouly. Last night one of the nurses in my department said they had read an article saying that despite the growth of the internet the most likely place that people meet partners is at work so we had a quick pole to see if this was the case. The results are as follows:

1) Police Officers - the run away winners with 8 nurses in our department in a relationshipwith a police officer, must be the uniforms!!.

2) Other nurses - came in at number 2 with an equal mix of people having met at nursing school or once qualified.

3) Paramedics - all had met through work

4) Radiographer - again another meet through work

5) Doctor - only came in at way down the list, clearly we have not been reading enough Mills and Boons!!! It's funny when I started training in the olden days the first thing my 90year old Grandma said was "how lovely you'll be able to meet a handsome Doctor" never had the heart to tell her the reality!!:)

It's fair to say we also had nurses who met their partners away from work and are in relationships with a teacher, farmer, car salesman and vet!!!!

As I said it's just for fun but now it's over to you - who do nurses marry or have as civil partners?????:redbeathe

My Hubby is a general manager of a gas station/convenience store. When we met I was a cna and he was a pizza delivery man.

My husband works in utilities. I met him in middle school.

Specializes in Corrections, Cardiac, Hospice.

My husband is a mailman. We were married 6 years before he got that job, however. Prior to that he worked in the service industry. We put each other through college, I wouldn't have it any other way.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Met my hubby through online dating and rumour went round where I used to work that I had nursed him and fell for him. He lived 60 miles from where I worked in a totally different hospital catchment area so not sure how i managed that

Specializes in Women's health & post-partum.

Mine was a bureaucrat in human services (for the state) before he retired. When we met and married, though, he was still working the job he'd had all through college--as a security guard. I always made more than he did. Still do in retirement:D

Specializes in Global Health Informatics, MNCH.

My hubby is an artist/graphic designer. We met in dance class while I was in nursing school and he was in art school. We'll be married 6 months on the 28th :-)

Specializes in Neuro ICU and Med Surg.

I met my husband while I was in nursing school. He worked with me at a Kroger. He works nowhere in the medical field. He is an auditor with an inventory company. I like that he isn't in the medical field except when I really wanna complain about the night I had and he has no clue what I am saying.

Specializes in LTC Family Practice.

My first ex was a grade school teacher and my 2nd ex is an FP Doc.:uhoh3: I'm not looking to add to another Mr. Wrong:cool: unless he'd like to support me in a maner I'd like to become acustom to:D:lol2:

Specializes in A and E, Medicine, Surgery.

Thankyou so much for all the fantastic replies. I have really enjoyed reading how people met and it warms my heart that some people have been together for so long and are still hopelessly in love.

The different names for jobs makes me smile:

In the UK a cop is called a Bobby, a mailman is known as a postie and garbage men are called binmen :)

Specializes in Med/Surg, ICU, educator.

My hubby is in maintenance, in fact he used to be my boss in a former career. When we started dating seriously, he had to step down as department manager, but says that it's all been totally worth it. He's my 3rd husband, and has had to put up with a lot of grief from my sons, and my 1st ex (boys dad), but handles all the issues with style and grace. He makes more an hour than I do, but I always pick up extra hours here and there, so I make more per check and per year than him!

Specializes in Corrections, Cardiac, Hospice.

Just because its all English, doesn't mean we are speaking the same language. You should see the looks I get when I go down south and ask for a "pop," Uh, excuse me a SODA, ROFL. My uncle has a friend from Australia and I had to ask him FREQUENTLY to repeat/translate what the heck he was talking about.

My husband is a social worker. I met him at a bus stop when I was 18 and in my first year of college. Thought he was very handsome and flashed him a smile! :D

I called my Mama after and she said there was no way that I should go out on a date with a man I randomly met at the bus stop. This was the only time I've gone directly against what Mom has said, and it was the best choice of my life!
