It's crazy, it took me forever to find a job as a school nurse in 2015 and I finally found one. Now my current (new in September) position was a lucky find, but all of a sudden I am seeing seriously every school district (including the one where I work) within 25 miles is desperate for school nurses. I have been emailed and cold called from a recruiter about open positions as well. I'm sure if I were unemployed I would never find a job, LOL. I am in MA by the way, just North of Boston. Oh, and my old school called me b/c the nurse they hired to replace me isn't coming back...are you seeing similar trends where you work?
My district in southern Indiana currently has three unfilled vacancies and is always looking for subs. I love being a school nurse, however, the pay is not very good in my district. I believe this is the main reason for the vacancies. I'm the only nurse at a school with almost 800 students, typically seeing between 50 and 70 students in 6 hours daily. There is no difference in pay from nurses at smaller schools in the district with half the students. More students means more paperwork, phone calls, medications, etc. I wish it meant more pay as well!

The school physician employed by school is a contract, consult position. They sign off on all my OTC orders, standing order Epi/benadryl orders, and my allergic reaction plan and seizure plan. I usually talk with them 2-3 times a year, email as needed.

I see you guys have a 2 hour delay today (at least Deerfield/Sunderland/Conway/Whatley do). My poor sister is in a brand new job and has to keep taking off b/c of school delays!

YES!! We had a nurse unexpectedly and indefinitely out and no one on the sub list to cover. We called a local agency and they wanted $65/hr!!!
