So how's everyone doing in their lpn program?

Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

well for me it's going pretty good. so far i have an A in f.o.n., A&P, finished my pvc class with a high B. my first three nutrition tests were super easy. i can't understand why some of my classmates are having a tuff time with any of this. i can relate to outside obligations but they knew the program would be intense. we all started out doing well then two dropped and a few may be administrativly dropped if the dont bring up their grades.

so tell me how is it going for the rest of you in lpn school?

I only have a few more weeks of the first semester. I had pharm, A&P which includes our Medical Termonolgy class, Medical Math, FON, and Contemprary Nursing. So, it has beenvery intense. Finals are coming up. I have an A in math.. B's in everything else... except pharm... I have a high.. C. In fact I am studying now.. just tool a break. Gotta get that pharm grade a little higher....

Hello All! Wow I haven't posted for a few months now. Nice to hear you guys are doing well in your program. WEll I started LPN school in September last year. Things are going well. We started with 22 now we have 19. We should have been down more but "politics and $$". That's another story

Anyway I'm not an "A" student but I strive to get good grades and not barely pass only because I like to leave myself room just incase I BOMB a test and need cushion for that final grade. So far I've managed to get an C in Nutrtion, B in A/P (that was a tough one), Fundamentals B, Theory/Knowledge A, Life Span B, Pharmacolgy is looking like B, and Looking like B for Nursing Adult. Hell...I've done pretty darn good for a mother of 4, wife and working women.:yeah: Going to school is not easy with a full time job but doable. Goes to show that if you have the drive and detemination anything is possible. Yes it is hard at times with homeowork and papers to write while your family hangs out and goes to the movies. But I committed myself to this program and will to the end. :D 3 more weeks and out for the summer then report back August 3rd for another 9mths. Just because I'm out for the summer I still have to study for the NCLEX. I've bought books and and study guides and my classmates and I are getting together atleast once a week to study over the break.

So you guys keep up the good work, study..study ..study and make sure you take time out for yourself. You need balance and ME TIME.

Good luck to you all!;)

Hello BEENURSEY10! I know it sounds really crazy but my program is through a vocational school that follows the public school calendar. :bugeyes:That being said....my last day is May 20th and I return August 3rd. It's a 18mth program but they don't count the summer break. I'm ok with it because I need to regroup and get ready for Level II which is harder than the first level.:specs: We will return fresh and ready to tackle clinicals. How's you program going?

Hi All! I'm doing good and keeping an A average but I'm only in A&P and FUND right now. I'm concerned about MedSurg so I appreciate the feedback. I'm also concerned about actual skills since i'm very new to the medical field and I have no hands on care experience. Will you all please post your study habits for skills check off? Who do you practice on and how LOL..

It would help me alot, thx!

Oh now that makes sense. i guess it's a good thing to have that break and come back refreshed. my program goes straight through with a one week summer break and holiday breaks.

so far i'm doing quite well. got a f.o.n exam tommorrow which i should do well since i've been in the book for a week now and my brain feels overloaded. God i can't wait until we have our break in july eventhough it's only a week.

There are a lot of students in my class with no hands on experience. see if you can practice in your school lab. some of the students in my class always practice on transferring, bathing, bed making, things like that. schools are pretty good about letting you get that extra time in for practice before you go out into clinicals. so don't be afraid to ask.

when we had skill check off some of them were afraid they would fail b/c they never done it before and our instructor told them this was not a pass/fail thing. they showed us how to do it and we did return demonstration. those who didnt get some of the steps right, they did it over and over until they got it right.

no matter what you're getting checked off on, they would rather have you mess up in a skills lab than out in the field where you may hurt someone. so just practice, practice, and practice. get your friends or family members to be the patient. i've done it many times.

Good luck :)

Our biggest loss was in the mental health rotation..we lost 4. Med-surg is AWESOME. I have seen alot and done alot at the hospital..last week I caught a wrong consent, took care of pre-op hip and then got to watch her surgery..it was intense and man I have SO much respect for the surgical nurses! When I continue my education that is my ultimate goal. The week before I hada post-op appendectomy patient and from am assessment to noon assessment his bowel sounds changed, abdominal girth was bigger, and his comfort level was dropping fast...contacted my primary and she got orders from the PCP to get a flatplate ..and low and behold he had perilitic ilius!! I am 2 points away from an "A" in lecture and we have 2 more tests to go before a small break and heading into summer to finish. My graduation is July 23!! Thanks for letting me share:clpty:

wow Trisha, you are going to make a great nurse! Congrats in advance on your grad!

I know that C=nurse but i wanna be "A" nurse. i've noticed alot of students in my class says c=nurse implying they are just getting by with a c on exams and that's all that matters. but the way i look at it, a "c" is fine it's passing, but if you're not interested in the questions you got wrong and not understanding the rationale for the right answer you're setting yourself up for failure. it's only gonna get harder and they should really come out of the "c" mode and strive for at least a b or an a.

thats what i been saying all quarter (since day 1 for that matter) - i dont want to pass wit a "C", i want at least a "B", better yet an "A".... but sometimes it dont work out like that .. im in my 2nd quarter right now.. its the hardest of all 4.. Nursing Funds 2 is no joke - i just got my pending avg today and im at a 78 (booo!) but the final is coming up soon so i better ace it if i want my lovely "B".. Pharm - the dosage exam was a breeze, i was 1 of 3 (out of 30) to pass on the first try and with the highest grade of 97 (woot woot!) now the rest of our exams,, jeez,, its not that its super hard its just soooo many drugs to know at one time:uhoh3:. but so far it looks like im avg'ing in the low to mid 80's. by finals i know i can get that to an "A".. now everyone is talking about how med surg is so hard, but im in med surg 1 and alot of stuff is repeated from Funds 1... the only thing that is getting everybody in my class is the tests. they have alot of nclex critical thinking questions that in reality just come down to interpretation i personally think... we've had many heated arguments with Ms. Ellie(bless her heart) but shes a tough cookie and WILL NOT BUDGE with those points no matter how much she knows we're right!.. anyways im at an 80 in her class, the final is tomorrow.. maybe med surg 2 & 3 will be more challenging... we start life span once we take this med surg final... so all in all im pretty much a B student right now.. definitely gonna be that A student.. just know that FAILING IS NOT AN OPTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
