2020 small achievements

Friends and colleagues: an important announcement!  I have found one small ray of hope in my 2020 school nursing practice.

COVID is still a disaster, the number of orders/meds/care plans that I have received from parents or physicians is zero, our nurse:student ratio is 1:bazillion,  and I'm working in a poorly ventilated space with a questionable PPE scenario and no clear plan for contact tracing BUT...

I GOT RID OF THE DONATION/CLOTHING CLOSET!  It's gone.  It's not in my office anymore - someone else is in charge of it, and it's physically located in another building.  Things that are now not my problem: dress code violators who need a t-shirt ("ew, not THAT one"), deodorant emergencies, tactful diversion of especially hideous donations (how many 15 year olds want a 1990's blazer?), nighttime dropoffs of expired canned goods, and the endless sorting/washing/folding of random pants.  I'm free!

What's your 2020 small achievement?  Nothing is too small or too ridiculous!

NSV (non school victory)

My hair mysteriously changed from straight to curly (yay hormones!) and I have been learning how to care for naturally curly hair. Big learning curve!!
I am proud to say that I have finally got a routine that leaves me with somewhat decent hair so I don't look like I am homeless.
I have even watched a few hair care videos while sitting at my desk ?

Curly girl method! My hair is naturally wavy/curly but takes 2 hours to dry and I can't quite figure out the diffuser, so my curly hair is reserved for breaks & Summer.

I held one of our blood drives yesterday (2 yearly), and I actually got to sit out there and man it! I see 5-15 kids a day now instead of 35-50. I get to eat my lunch, and I get to pump when I need to.

All the health conditions are entered and I get lunch most days.

When we had to take a catheterization back last year I got rid of the clothes closet!

I got rid of my clothes closet this year! It's technically always been my isolation room, and has been labeled as such. But now that I get to use my isolation room for its actual purpose, the clothes had to go. I am SO RELIEVED to not be uniform duty and have to fold clothes and rehang them from messy teenagers daily.

I got the position at my dream school, and now have a 7-minute commute to work!  It is the school that my son attended, and my daughter will be here in 3 years.  Plus, this campus has supportive admin, the students have manners, and the parents have working phone numbers.  We see far fewer students than in years past, too.

I'm happy that this is the first "return to school year" that I'm totally liberated from non-student health stuff.    It actually was accomplished last year when we hired Trini, but I gave her a hand with her being "new to the position."   Now, she's got it all under control herself.

Glad to have made it for possible Betty, but I couldn't have done it without your help.   Happy that this year I could handle all of the things you didn't want to do like catheterizations and the like.

That is an awesome achievement. I don't even want to tell you how upset I would be if I had to deal with the clothes closet. Our Family Resource Center coordinator does that, and my hat is off to her!
