Well immigration looking to be on the long side, hubby has chance to go to Canada on a temporary work permit so off we go. Been a bit busy trying to decide where to live but will be going to Nova Scotia. US still ongoing but fed up on putting life on hold all the time so grabbing this opportunity
Still letting the USA paperwork wend it's merry way through the ever so slow system but have to get outta here!! So going to Alberta in the meantime.
Although if I like it I may end up staying - can keep house as a holiday home, rent it out long term or sell it. We'll see, one thing I cannot do is wait here any longer because of the age of my eldest child, his education is important & the Canadian system is not dissimilar to that in the USA.
The way it's going he'll be in University before we even get a look in at our greencards!! Worse still he might even reach over 21 - which will exclude him from getting a greencard with the rest of us. So we needed a plan "B" -& we got one!
We have really great friends in Calgary & they helped me find a job & will assist with housing etc etc etc.
Welcome to Canada. Do yourself a huge favour and go to Marks and Spencer before you leave, buy their best wool undergarments, both upper and lower. Trust me, you will need them. And,you will be ever thankful you have them. Winter is unforgiving. Spring, summer and fall are wonderful.
Thank you, Still in the UK whilst hubby's works get letter sorted for work permit but hoping for march time and already planned to get some warm winter clothing ready :)
Just read that you and RGN1 are heading to Canada. Can't say I blame you! Lots and lots of luck with your moving and all the preperations that go with it. This is my first mid-western winter. We have had over 17 inches of snow this week, an ice storm and it reached -10 FARENHEIT for crying out loud this week. Brrrr..... And, I am supposed to be in Florida...took a wrong turn somewhere!
