This job search thing is really getting annoying. I spent more than 4 years in college getting my BSN, and I still have no fricking job! Arrrrrrgh! I'm beginning to think I should just apply for a job as a medical secretary/receptionist. Sigh.
and I thought having BSN would help!! I'm an associate degree RN and doing BSN- thought this would help, I guess not! Its so depressing to go through ALL THAT and still not get a job !!
Recent Grad RN- No Job... No job = Not A Surprise......Reading a lot of postings is just making me more depress about finding a job...I really want to work at one of the HHC and be close to home...I am wondering anyone know that if volunteer at one of the HHC will help me land a job there...I know is hard out there...get the foot at the door...I always have been a new york girl...do subway no car don't know how to drive...in meantime of my volunteer as RN, learn how to drive is so if i do have to relocate that will come in handy.. Seriously I just want share some thoughts and hope that we, as new grad nurse, can form a self-help group...give each other encouragement and insight to go through tough times like these..
I am so sorry to hear that you are going through this. I hope all is you find something very soon. I can only imagine how unsettling this feeling is. I graduate school in a few months and am thinking along the same track.. how difficult will it be when it comes time to landing a job. Are hospitals in NYC really focusing ON GPA because they can?
Some places care about new-grad GPA. I got a phone call from NYPresbyterian about the "new grad" nursing posting, and the phone interview was going well (I thought) until they asked me what my GPA was. My graduating GPA was a 'B' average, and I could tell that was "less than par." Needless to say I didn't receive a phone call back about my resume.
Some of my nursing school colleagues got all A's, and failed the NCLEX the first time. Some of my nursing school colleagues got all A's, and I wouldn't want them at my bedside because they have absolutely no people skills, common sense, life experience, etc.
I have 10+ years of full and part-time work experience including managerial experience, customer service, and 4 years in a healthcare setting, and still the GPA was really important. I haven't been without a job since I was 14 years old.
Sigh.
