Silliest answer someone has said in class?

Today was my first day of micro. Our instructor asked the class "what is the name of the bacteria that is the number one cause of UTI's?"

A student answered Ebola.

I got a good chuckle in A&P when a young woman was incredulous to learn that there were three openings to her body in her peri area. The urethra came as a complete surprise to her. She lived to her early 20's, was married, and had a baby yet had assumed that the lady parts and orifice were all there was down there.

Interesting! Does that routine start before birth? And have there been any studies about this belief? I would be interested in reading a posting about your findings.

Me too.

I don't really remember the exact question that was asked but this happened during first semester. It was only the third day of class, and all 48 of us were in the room watching a film over cultural differences and how it affects nursing. All 3 instructors were in the room, and they had paused the film to ask us questions. One instructor asked us all something like, "Can you think of a way cultural differences might affect how you interact with patients?" and one student seriously says:

"I don't really know.. but if you're walking down a street and you see a young black man minding his own business not doing nothing, you can't just decide you're gonna shoot him and end his life. When all he's carrying with him is some skittles, that's just not right." She was obviously referencing Trayvon Martin and it had nothing to do with what we were discussing. No one really said anything and the instructors just kind of looked at her for an awkward minute, then the instructor who had asked the question was like "Okay, moving on.." and resumed the video.

Haven't you ever heard of brewer's yeast as a milk production booster? That would be why beer is recommended.

Yes but drinking beer during pregnancy? I've never heard of that or that it is recommended. Beer after delivery while breastfeeding yes.

As a PP said, Europeans are less rigid than we are about alcohol in pregnancy, and we don't see massive fetal alcohol syndrome over there. My MIL was advised to drink a glass of wine every night during her pregnancies and my husband and his brother are perfectly healthy and neurologically normal. There is obviously a line somewhere and we don't know where it is.

In my area we have many Mennonites. They receive a decent basic education, but nothing about sex education. Not even "this is how your body works" education. It is completely up to the parents to teach these things and some don't do such a good job. They don't have things like TV or radio.

One local family practice physician said that in his practice he had encountered several couples who were failing to conceive due to near total sexual ignorance on the part of the couple.

Interesting.

I will add that my ex believed that I only had two holes as well; he actually called one night while I was sleeping during a debate with another male co-worker over whether women had two holes or three; granted I had to tell him the truth. ;)

Ummmm....so how did cavemen figure it out? Have we actually gotten dumber then our slope-browed forebears?!
