Silliest answer someone has said in class?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Today was my first day of micro. Our instructor asked the class "what is the name of the bacteria that is the number one cause of UTI's?"

A student answered Ebola.

Ummmm....so how did cavemen figure it out? Have we actually gotten dumber then our slope-browed forebears?!

Unlike modern Mennonites the cave men, living in conditions where privacy wasn't really possible, had plenty of observable examples. Also, while I sure cavemen had plenty of their own dogma, it was likely more realistic than the dogma believed by Mennonites and other Christian sects.

Classmate informed his clinical group he got to administer milk of amnesia (magnesia) to a patient.

Milk of amnesia is what we used to call propofol. Since MJ used it to kill himself we have been calling it "Mikie's milk"

A girl in my psychology asked if she received blood from a person with depression (or any other psychological disorder) would she get it. I mean ... I guess it's better to ask than go on uninformed

Years ago I actually saw that word in nurses notes.....OMG. Instead of purulent drainage she used pus or lets say the plural of.

Many moons ago the instructor asked, "Which one of these food items is most appropriate for a nine-month old infant to eat?" The options were raw carrots, chocolate pudding, rice cereal, and peanut butter.

One of my classmates answered, "Raw carrots!"

Hmmm, okay. I can only conjecture this student was not thinking that the baby would choke on those raw carrots. By the way, the answer was rice cereal. Chocolate pudding and peanut butter are soft enough, but might provoke food allergies if fed to babies too early in life.

A cold raw carrot is wonderful for a teething baby! That's what I gave mine to chomp on, worked like a charm

I can see that. I would use one of those net things with it though. I had one for my babies and what a great invention.

One local family practice physician said that in his practice he had encountered several couples who were failing to conceive due to near total sexual ignorance on the part of the couple.

Not exactly "class" related, and maybe TMI, but I was once observing a midwife for a few days during office visits, and a younger couple came in for a fertility consult. They had been trying for a year or so and no pregnancy, so the midwife drew some blood and went to collect a pap since the girl had never had one. The girl almost scooted backwards off the table when she went to insert the speculum, and she sat up confused. After some explaining and questioning, we found out they were using the, uh, backdoor for intercourse, which totally explains the "infertility." I guess they both came from very conservative families, had been told sex was supposed to be uncomfortable at first, etc and they just didn't know better. >.

You know, I get really tired of "conservative" equating to ignorant and backwards.

I'm very conservative, yet my kids have known from early grade school on how babies are made, and not just egg meets sperm but the mechanics of how, because they asked.

Parents who don't teach their kids about sex are irresponsible wimps who let their own discomfort force them to shortchange their children. That has no political or religious identification and I'd appreciate it if people would stop indicating that it does. Conservatives don't deserve put downs just because you disagree, just like other groups don't.

I didn't take the "conservative" as used in that post to be the same "Conservative" as used to describe a political point of view.

Centainly many people who are politicaly liberal are very conservative in their personal sex lives, and many who are politicaly conservative are very "liberal" in their personal sex life.

My personal experience & observation leads me to belive that both conservative and liberal political view points both have plenty of ignorant and backwards people in them. I don't see one winning the stupid prize over the other.

I'm sorry if my use of conservative offended anyone. I rather meant it as a general way of thinking rather than having a religious or political connotation. I also didn't mean it in a derogatory way, I apologize if it reads that way.
