Hi!:yeah: I wanted to ask if any of you know if sign on bonus does still exist these days? I've heard some of the hospitals did offer quite huge amount (like $50,000 few years ago). I am so interested to grab any opportunity since I am already starting a family ( I was hoping to find around $20,000- $30,000 signon bonus because I also want to pay up the remaining student loan I have. Thank you so much!:thankya:

I've never heard of a $50K sign-on bonus for a new grad or a minimally experienced nurse, especially if the nurse is not in a high demand specialty, for a US facility. There were some high sign-on bonuses offered in the past for experienced nurses in overseas middle east facilities, but then you were required to move to Saudi Arabia or other countries for those jobs

That said there is no shortage of nurses in most markets therefore no need for employers to offer sign-on bonuses. It's an employer's market. (makes me laugh when I hear coworkers planning on making demands of my employer threatening to leave for other (non-existent) jobs), they don't realize that they are lucky to have a job, especially if they are new grads)

Good luck in your search.

Yes, signing bonuses still exist.

Unfortunately you need to be a lefty with a 95+ mph fastball and a nasty changeup to get one.

That's the best response to a question I've read in quite a while.

Bless your heart.

Possibly military? But I know recruitment is actually really selective right now with the economy. Possibly locations that are having trouble recruiting nurses? Did you try googling?

I got a sign on bonus of $5k and was super excited about that.

I thought I would add. . .

IN THIS ECONOMY, AND WITH WHAT YOU HAVE READ ABOUT JOB SHORTAGES, . . .

IF YOU SEE A LARGE SIGN-ON BONUS. . .

RUN RUN RUN

Thank you so much! I hope I will be able to find one and will keep you posted...

I found some too that were offering $10k and $20k sign on bonus. My friend was able to get $23k sign on bonus last year with a 2-year commitment and it's true that the hospital is 1 1/2 hours away from the big city. But I guess it doesn't really matter if I was offered such and her benefits were the same as what I am receiving now in my current hospital... God bless you all... :nurse:

There's only one hospital in my area that I know of offering sign on bonuses - $2000 for a 1 yr commitment, $4000 for 2 yrs - & that is just for new grads. My understanding though is that there is high turnover there & the majority of RNs on the floor are new. Otherwise, some LTC offer some tuition reimbursement. Better to focus on the duties expected & working conditions for a job than to focus on offers of extra $$$ used to entice you.

I have to ask...where is this hospital located offering $23,000.oo sign on.?

Yep I started at a hospital offering one, I think it was 5000? Well of course they said I wouldn't even get it for a while and only a little bit at a time...well I never got any of it cause I resigned after 2 weeks.

So I agree, if they have to entice like that, it's prob not the best place to work. And don't ever expect them to actually give you the bonus before you put in youre requirements, and if they do and u quit you have to pay it back.

I would wonder too, what the salary is. $23,000k comes out to $950 a month so you would want to compare salaries and benefits to see how much of a plus that is. Also, benefits get paid out over a long period of time. If you have a 2-year commitment, you won't see that whole bonus until your two years is up.

I made the mistake once of working for a hospital that offered a sign on bonus; I didn't even bother sticking around to collect it. Worst experience of my life.

So be careful.

ah! those were the days...sign on bonuses!!! however, i'll say that not everything that shines is gold. therefore, if it sounds to good to be true, it's usually not worth it... wishing you the best always ....aloha~

Hello! It's been awhile I haven't opened my account here. You are all right because my friend who got the $23K sign on bonus for 2 years said it was not worth it... :nurse:
