Hi!:yeah: I wanted to ask if any of you know if sign on bonus does still exist these days? I've heard some of the hospitals did offer quite huge amount (like $50,000 few years ago). I am so interested to grab any opportunity since I am already starting a family ( I was hoping to find around $20,000- $30,000 signon bonus because I also want to pay up the remaining student loan I have. Thank you so much!:thankya:

I'd say that probably no hospitals are giving sign on bonuses these days. And I have never even heard of one being more than $10000. Those were given out during a time when hospitals were desperate for nurses and there just weren't enough to go around. Now the opposite is true- there aren't enough jobs for all the nurses graduating from school. No hospital would give a sign on bonus in that situation and would probably laugh you out of the interview if you asked.

Dream on hon, those days are over! Good luck with your student loans and new career though.

The simple answer is NO. Nursing and most of the perks tanked with the rest of the economy. The only very large bonus like the $50.000 was to work in Saudi for a year tax free, years ago. Some hospitals used to offer loan forgiveness progrms and again I found a small cluster in FL....but most others we military and advanced degrees or around $5,000.

I found a few scattered for $10,000 for experienced nurses and heavy in critical care with a 2 year commitment and you have to be willing to move with out re-location assistance depending on where you live AND the bonus is usually spread out over the 2 years or not given until the end of the commitment.

I found a cluster at a hospital in GA.......my experience is that when a cluster is found in this job climate exercise caution....there is probably a good reason they have to lure people to their facility.

Good luck.

Oh and google is your friend.....

If there IS a sign on bonus you need to question why very very hard. For instance: Eagle Pass, Texas. Still offering a sign on bonus because they have a hard time attracting nurses for a number of very valid reasons, all of which need to make you think hard before going there to work.

The days of hearty sign-on bonuses and perks are gone. Be thankful just to be offered a job if you are that lucky.

no, because now they have new grads coming out the back side and not all new grads can get jobs. Just the opposite now.

Unless it's a remote area which has difficulty attracting nurses, no sign on bonuses exist. Employers have plenty of eager applicants. In fact, I have read at least a dozen posts on this site over the last two years indicating that people would work for free to gain experience.

This place has such a terrible reputation! I know several nurses who have worked there, most quit within the first few weeks. Unless you enjoy having no techs and double the normal patient load, this place is a bad place to go. Very dangerous, they lure in new grads with a new grad program and they all quit and break their contract as well. One nurse told me they tried to give her an admission when she had 9 patients already. This was not a one time occurence, the patient loads there are ridiculous.

Yes, signing bonuses still exist.

Unfortunately you need to be a lefty with a 95+ mph fastball and a nasty changeup to get one.

When I started nursing in 2006, they were all over the place. These days it seems like people are volunteering just to get hired! Seems like the travel agencies will give some these days to take on the travel assignments no one wants.

Keep dreaming. These days you're lucky to find a job. I don't think I've ever heard of a 50K sign-on bonus; the highest I ever saw was 15K. Those sign-on bonuses came with some heavy requirements.

Good luck!

Sign on bonus? HAH. They are giving severance pay
