Should I wait it out or go with the guarantee?

I dont have a job offer yet. Just thinking ahead.

I have had a couple of interviews for an L&D new grad position ( looks really promising) with one hospital that is over an hours drive to from my house. After asking about the hospital and what it offers its patients ( Doula/Volunteers, midwives, baby friendly etc. ) she states that the patients are lucky to have a bed to give birth in. Plus it would be horrible to move from our house and all of our support. The second job is at the hospital I currently work at as a tech which is much closer to home and offers all the things (mentioned above) that I love about L&D. But my tech job there is no guarantee of a RN position, but maybe a per diem in the next 6 months or so in L&D or med-surg.

I know in this economy new grads shouldnt be picky but as my husband pointed out that I would be working for a hospital where I may not be happy and working 12hr shifts plus 3 hours of travel time. He will never see me or our child (which has been bad enough with me in school and working). :sniff:

Also hospitals invest a lot of money in new grads and if I do take the job I would leave to be closer to home once I had a year or two of experience. :nono:

I know it seems like I have already made up my mind but I wanted to get some other insight on what you would do.

So do I follow my heart :redbeathe or my brain?

I would take the first legitimate acute-care offer that comes your way unless there's some major reason not to.

I second this advice.

I second that...Take what you are offered.

agreed as above posted, take what you are offered, it may or may not be as bad as you think, who knows maybe you going to that hospital you can be the one to bring change to the department, advocate for doulas/vollenteers....

Oh, Lord, that's why she said what she did about being lucky to have a bed.

Persoanlly, I woud take anything near home, per diem, nights, etc. Don't discount the horrors of a long commute in between 12s.

My family always came first when I was married with children at home. So if I was in your shoes I'd wait it out for a job offer close to home.
