Why are you asking a bunch of strangers on the internet?

OK, just kidding. Wondering why people ask total strangers on the internet for advise regarding major life changes. I don't want to name names, but a lot of people come to this site and ask questions better answered by people closer to the situation...

My favorites are: I'm 28 weeks pregnant and have some spotting and cramping. I want to know how you guys would take care of a patient with these symptoms. By the way, I'm NOT asking for any medical advice. I mean, I just want to know what you nurses would do if a patient like me showed up on your unit.

Crusty the Old Bat here, to tell alla you youngins and grasshoppers jist how it's gonna be. I've been wiping butts, eating my young, wearing my old cap from my diploma program in 1873 and shaming new grads on AN since dinosaurs roamed the nursing units. I've fought management, wowed surveyors, survived 28373618 State inspections, precepted 823776278 students, saved 2938949837364883 lives, had both knees, both hips, and both shoulders replaced, have titanium feet, asbestos hands, and had a scan of the striations on my 837738 gallon bladder blown up and hung in the Museum of Modern Art.

I've seen it all. You name it, I've suctioned rats out of newborn's lungs in the NICU, I've survived swirling vortexes of C-Diff diarrhea that swallowed whole SNFs, I've straight cathed 1300 lb 90 year olds with a coffee stirrer from the break room. I remember when we wore iron corsets, had to crank the phone, charted with a quill by candle light and never had a break for more than a swig of Hibiclens for lunch.

You ungrateful brats these days have no idea what awaits you in the Grand Guignol torture chamber of poop and fluids that is nursing. It's been 68 years for me and I have one good eye left and need an ear trumpet to hear all you new grads whining incessantly, on top of the squeal of my 56K modem connecting over dialup. Let me tell you. *gestures with moderator's scepter* You are not a special snowflake! You will not get a medal just for showing up! You will not be allowed to ask questions that haven't been asked before! Learn to search the forums and use Google now, grasshoppers, before misfortune befalls you! Moo hahahaha!

This literally hits the nail on the head !!!!! I'm crying over here

No!! you should not!! You might loose you're lisense! and why would you want to work in a furren country?

and my uncle's third cousin's nephew tried that so I know what I'm talking about

(Damn, you beat me to the "loosing" license one!)

Hi there!

I'm going to join and post a worn-out topic thread and become defensive when I am redirected to the last 5 threads on this same topic from the past 2 months.

I'm going to post multiple threads about the same thing because it needs to be answered NOW or I'm worried NOONE will see it. It is about X, but I will ask it in the X, Y, Z, and G forums.

I will post a homework question and the homework question only! No thought process or attempted answers.

I'm going to be a great nurse! Oh, but I can't work this Christmas, I have kids! Why can't one of my single/older/childless co-workers work instead? And this nurse on my unit has is out for me! Can I sue?

i wish i would have known about allnurses before i started nursing school! i wish i would have asked 'silly questions' to strangers online! they could potentially have saved me from wasting money and time doing something that is nothing like what i was told it would be.

my parents were desperate for me to go into healthcare so they talked up nursing like it was the best job ever, and my professors were fine with lying about working conditions, etc. to keep students in the program (tuition $). everyone IRL was telling me there's no need to ever work weekends and nights, that i could make my own schedule, that CNAs did all the baths/ poop-related tasks /ADLs, etc.

strangers on the internet could have given me a different story! be kind and answer people's questions. you might be doing them the favor of their life byclearing up their misconceptions and thus dissuading them from a profession that isn't right for them.

I would go but I am just so busy. I have been on a boat for more years than you have been alive so trust me when I say I know what I am talking about.

People on a boat all act the same way and I don't like it at all. All the people on a boat can be so annoying and I will probably have a job to do that they will get in the way of. Boat people are the worst people ever and I can't stand them (which makes it really hard to be on a boat for all these years). Of everyone on the boat agrees with me if not I want them thrown off of the boat. Again I have been around since Moses so I know this is true.

But to be honest I am pretty busy on AN. You see I like to start threads that are controversial and then wait for someone to disagree with me. Then I giving a passive aggressive response to show how superior I am. Then if they come back at me I play the victim. I mean someone calling me passive aggressive after I was merely passive aggressive is sooooooo wrong.

The good news is my friends from the site will all put together a thread to support me and tell me I am wonderful. Plus the moderators of the site will delete people's comments that point out where I said anything wrong so you will never see it unless you are really looking for it- but my passive aggressive comments get to stay. Being the victim is awesome so I am too busy getting on the boat.

Anyway I better get off here and go over to the student forum- I heard that someone posted a thread looking to interview someone. They even had the nerve to say they had asked many places and hadn't gotten a reply. Back when I was in school we had to interview someone face to face as the town switchboard was often busy and there pny express only ran on Tuesday. I mean these kids who interact or network through the computer are the worst. I mean you might not even know they are a nurse unless you ask if you can call the at work or they write you from their work email and you do something called "the Google" to look them up. I also need to make sure all the new nurse know they are the problem and that any nurse who they think are bulllying them are really just giving sage advice.

So you go havee fun on your boat who us old timers keep things in line here.

Is this the part where I said "bless your heart?" I want to get one last condescending shot in before I end my post.

I voted yes, but only because the option I wanted to see wasn't there:

Yes, and I'll take all those AN member who want to go with me!
