so what do you guys wear?? i start clinicals next week and im not sure what to buy...
NEW BALANCE!!!! But not ANY kind... you have to find the "running" shoes with the highest # (they name their shoes by numbering them). Make sure you go to a New Balance store (and not a store in the Mall) because they'll measure the width of your foot, along with the length. Also, they help you understand how you walk, and fit a personal padding inside. Yeah, they aren't the most stylish of shoes... but after wearing some J's, shox, af1, and even max's for 12 hours... it doesnt come close to New Balance... I'm NEVER on my feet for extended periods of time without them.
I wear New Balance walking shoes... there's a NB outlet here in Boston and I got them from the closeouts section (they were the previous year's model)... paid like 25 dollars for them and they fit like a glove and are very comfortable and carry my 225 lb frame for the whole shift without any complaints. The fact that they were so inexpensive was also great for this broke student.
Dansko Clogs...Say what you want as far as them being too feminine but they are the best shoes I wear, I have two pairs one for work (ER) and the second white pair for clinicals, I graduate next week and have just died the white ones to black (they look ok) 120 bucks a pair and never complained once. Get them ASAP and wear them around the house for a few hours each day because they do take a while to break in and are not comfy until they are broke in.
Right before my clinicals started last month, Nike Shox finally came out in all-white -- with a leather tongue!!!!All the other models have mesh over the top of the foot...regulations don't say anything about that, but if people are going to be bleeding, puking, peeing on me, I want the top of my shoe to be as impermeable as possible.
Pretty comfy...turns out mine pinch a bit on the sides, but are very well cushioned. Combined with support hose (:imbar ), my legs and feet feel FABULOUS at the end of the day (wonder how long that will last......).
Good luck with the search.

Do you have a specific make/model number for the Shox's that are all white with the leather tongue? I looked at the Nike web site and could not find them.

I've been trying to find all white NB. They no longer make them
My program requires "nursing" shoes and I have wide feet. I found a great pair at Standing Comfort. I don't usually like to buy shoes from a website but the pair of extra wides that I got are great. At the end of the day I don't even think about them. The problem is that they're around $90.00, but I'm an old guy and bad shoes is the last thing I can deal with.
They still have all white NBs. I found a pair at Famous Footwear (brick and mortar). I got a pair of MX609AW in 4E, just in case I get to wear them one day for work. They can also order the size that you want if they don't happen to have it in stock.
I was really leery also but I really didn't have much of a choice. The local stores that sold nursing shoes said that they would order a pair for me to try on but they didn't seem to take me seriously when I was in the store and they never called me back.
I was probably lucky but I really like the pair I've got. They came in extra wide, they are comfortable, and my feet don't hurt at the end of the day.
For you guys with hard to fit feet, like high arches, etc. Go to an orthopedic shoe store for fitting. They can fit you with insoles, or supports. The supports are not real expensive and they really help. I bought a set of Brooks because of my arches, they fitted me with insoles, and wow what a difference. I intern on a Med/Surg floor with 12 hr shifts and they have saved my feet, legs, and back. I wear Crocs on occasion, but found that I left them behind on codes like other posters. Also, they have a habit of stopping the toe for some reason. I read that it is called a Croc-stop. I have a pair of Merrill shoes that must be 5 years old and they still look new. They build a great shoe. I own a small retail store, and we sold their boots years ago. Really good product. Wears forever. I own a pair of the all-white Nike Shox. They were pretty hard on my feet and back. Wore them during the first two smesters of clinicals. They would not stand up to 12hr shifts for me. A lot of the RN's wear New Balance. Great durability and they say great comfort. New Balance has a great website that tells you about your foot and the lasts they build that will work best for your foot shape. Really interesting stuff for nerds like us:)

I bought my husband's nursing shoes from Allheart (kinda slow with shipping, though). They couldn't just have white leather shoes, had to be actual nursing shoes. I had a hard time finding a pair that didn't have little hearts or something else cutsy. He thought they were ugly, but after he ended up with poo and worse on them, he no longer cared.
