SHARP Winter 2013/2014 New Nurse Residency

U.S.A. California

Hello! It's that exciting time again!

:)

I'm starting this thread to support, advise, and inform each other about this residency program. If you don't mind, share a little bit about yourselves.

Graduation date: Degree type: healthcare experience: Any special skills or certificates:

Thanks!

I graduated back in December 2012. I have a couple of months of experience as a RN and a year experience as a CNA. I graduated with a ASN and am currently working on my BSN. This will be my 4rth time applying to Sharps NNRP!!! I have the basic certifications (BLS and ACLS) I applied to Grossmont's PCU and telemetry/MS.

Ahh good luck to you guys that have had your interviews!! I have mine tomorrow and am so excited because Sharp is truly where I want to work. That is great that they are making decisions quickly. I am going to be so anxious to hear back!!

Thanks for sharing all the info also! This process is never fun and very stressful. We all work so hard in school and it's frustrating that it's so hard to get hired in the hospitals. I'm hoping somehow I can stand out tomorrow and make a good first impression. Since they already narrow done the applicants so much you know everyone is very qualified!! I have know idea how they decide who to choose!

Well, I received a call from the Grossmont NICU this morning, "Thank you for your time, but we went with other applicants." I can't express how disappointing this news is. I'm trying to put it behind me and focus on other things, but honestly its difficult. I'm pulling for you tomorrow Linds_12!!

I emailed the manager on the panel and politely asked her to provide some insight and/or feedback into what influenced the hiring decisions and any advice she may have for me regarding my future interview opportunities. I'll keep you posted if she responds with any enlightening information.

To anyone on this board who did accept one of the positions at the Grossmont NICU today - a heartfelt congratulations from me :) It seems like an amazing opportunity and I wish you the best!

All the rest of us, let's keep truckin' and encouraging one another.

Wow HRK333 I'm so sorry. They got back to you fast. It is so hard to receive bad news from something you want so bad. I may be in your shoes in a couple days. I am super nervous now because I really never know what they are looking for. And people say they felt they had great interviews yet are not getting hired. Just keep your head up and remember that everything happens for a reason even though at the time it sucks!! Thank you for keeping is updated though and hopefully they will respond to your email and give you advice. Again I'm sorry you received bad news

Has anyone heard back from Mary Birch for NICU since submitting their form?

My sister has an interview with MB NICU Dec. 2

Congrats to your sister! When did she hear back?

They called her just yesterday morning so they may still be calling people..... I guess they didnt tell her how many people they were interviewing or how many positions they were hiring for unfortunately... Hopefully you hear something today!

So exciting for your sister! Glad to hear they have called & she has time to prepare. I haven't recd a response yet from MB NICU; however, a part of me feels they might not call since I have an ADN, & no NICU preceptorship, but I am maintaining a positive attitude. I recently heard from a nurse who works in NICU that they have hired new grads with only BS's in the past. Maybe someone can confirm if this is true. Do you mind sharing about your sister: Did she list a Sharp referral, volunteer at Sharp, hospital experience, does she have a BSN, did she do rotations at Sharp, & NICU preceptorship? Hope you don't mind sharing as it may help the future grads and the ones still trying to get a job if there's hope for us.

To HRK333, I am sorry to hear you didn't get the job, but I am rooting for you on the UCSD Perinatal/NICU position. To everyone else, lets hope for the best and lets keep pressing on and thank you for posting your comments. I have faith God will open the door for us, although it may not necessarily be our first choice or within the timing we want, but eventually we will be working & getting paid. Yes, HRK333, this can be a full time job without the paycheck.

Any news from Grossmont Hospital PCU? I applied to that position and heard nothing yet.

Ya no problem. She's getting her BSN, she works at Sharp MB as an HCP per diem, no NICU preceptorship but she did an externship in labor and delivery at UCSD. Hope that helps, best of luck to all of you!

Has anyone heard back from -------------- L&D after the interviews?? :)

I aplied to Sharp New Grad RN residency 3 times and so far no email or call for an interview. I guess I messed up on answering the questionnaires especially the "Why do you want to start your first nursing career at Sharp?" and "How do you define leadership? In what way have you demostrated leadership." Can somebody give me an answer to those questions so that hopefully I get a chance next time? Thanks.
