Hello! It's that exciting time again!
:)
I'm starting this thread to support, advise, and inform each other about this residency program. If you don't mind, share a little bit about yourselves.
Graduation date: Degree type: healthcare experience: Any special skills or certificates:
Thanks!
I graduated back in December 2012. I have a couple of months of experience as a RN and a year experience as a CNA. I graduated with a ASN and am currently working on my BSN. This will be my 4rth time applying to Sharps NNRP!!! I have the basic certifications (BLS and ACLS) I applied to Grossmont's PCU and telemetry/MS.
Hi everyone! I just got an email from Sharp Mary Birch for NICU! I returned the form within 1.5hours of getting it! Does anyone have any info about this or anyone else get anything?
Hi Culli005,
I received the Mary Birch NICU screening form as well & emailed it last night when I checked it. I was very thorough with my responses, so I hope it wasn't too much since some responses were lengthy. Please tell me about yourself, I'm trying to gauge to see what they are looking for since a manager would be screening out our responses for a possible interview. Do you have a ADN or BSN & was your preceptorship in NICU? As for me, I have my ADN & preceptorship was in L&D & live outside of SD County. I have my NRP, PALS, ACLS, BLS, Basic Arrhythmia Certs. Does anyone know if they prefer only BSN grads in NICU?
Anyone who chose Sharp Memorial Residency hear back yet? :)
I applied to it as my second choice, but haven't heard anything. My 1st choice was L&D at Mary Birch, but I saw a post of someone getting a call back. I did not have the Maternal Newborn Nursing Course which was required, so I wonder if that is an automatic disqualification. I did apply to MB NICU which was posted last week & ecstatic when I saw it. I recd an email for an addt'l screening form to fill out. I've been applying & this is the first time that I have recd a response to my numerous of applications to various hospitals.
Hi ruby_rocks!
I too have an ADN, but I am enrolled in an RN-BSN program. My school didn't offer a preceptorship. I did a few days in NICU though. I have my NRP, PALS, ACLS, EKG, and BLS. I volunteered at Sharp Mary Birch prior to starting nursing school. I also love out of SD county, but close enough to commute! NICU is my first choice and the reason I went I to nursing! I am so excited to have received the supplemental form!
Hi guys! I too got the screening form and sent in last night. I have my ADN but am in a BSN program. Have my BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP. We didn't have a preceptorship offered in the NICU :-( but I was lucky to do it on the MICU/ SICU at sharp Chula Vista. Crossing my fingers for all of us! I've worked as a caregiver for 5 years but not sure if that helps in a NICU position
I had a phone interview with the Grossmont NICU last week and now I have a panel interview on Monday. I'm nervous, but SUPER excited!! The panel interview will be an hour, with 6 interviewers. Best of luck to all of you receiving responses from Mary Birch. I know an RN who works there and loves it :)
BTW, I'm a BSN (graduated in May) with NRP and S.T.A.B.L.E.
Wow your interview is going to be an hour!! That's crazy but good that it's so in depth. I bet you get a tour also!! Good luck to all the NICU and L&D people!! I hope they let everyone know soon after interviews since they aren't interviewing that many!! Anyone else have interviews next week?? There are not many people on this board.
Hey everyone! I applied originally for Sharp Memorial's residency program and I got a call from a nurse recruiter (this was back in October) saying that they made a mistake on the website and Sharp Chula Vista had a residency program as well in the PCU and wanted to ask if I wanted to change my first choice to Chula Vista (she said since I did my preceptorship there that was why she was calling to ask me so I would have that choice) since that call, I have not heard anything, but wondering if anyone has heard from Sharp Chula Vista?
I actually had an interview this past week at Sharp Mary Birch for Labor and Delivery!!! I'm dying waiting to find out if I got the position or not. It is similar to Grossmont NICU where they have a panel of 6 (or 5 in my interview) and they will all go around the table and ask you questions individually. It can be pretty intimidating actually.
For the L&D program at MB, they are interviewing 15 total and hiring 6-8 people they told me. I had also interviewed at Sharp Grossmont last January for their Spring new grad program but didn't have the Maternal Newborn Nursing care class at that time, so I wasn't hired. At that time they interviewed 8 and hired 4.
I'm only telling you all this so you can get a feeling for how Sharp works....since I've been there done that twice now, I thought I would pass along the info as I know how interested I was to find out any info the first time or two I applied at Sharp. Also, I was told by the recruiter at Sharp they will ONLY look at your 2nd choice if the position you chose first is canceled for some reason. So, if you chose L&D first and NICU second, they will not even look at you for the NICU position since the L&D position wasn't canceled. Doesn't seem too fair to me, but that is how I was told that they do it there.
Lastly, for those that were asking the pay rate. For BSN nurses, the starting pay I was told is $35.22 an hour - and this is without the night shift pay differential I am pretty certain.
Hope that helps answer some questions for some of you. And good luck to all of you! :)
I interviewed at Grossmonts NICU this morning. The staff was pleasant but, I concur, the interview was fairly intense - panel of 7 and they all asked me about 2 questions each. They stated they were interviewing 6 and hiring 4. They really attempted to reduce the number of panel interviews by carefully screening apps and then conducting phone interviews. The unit manager let me know they will be finishing interviews tomorrow morning, deliberating tomorrow afternoon, and contacting all applicants (hired or passed over) by tomorrow evening. At least I won't have to wait and wonder for weeks :)
I wasn't unaware of the first vs second choice issue, or the starting salary..... so thank you ALIinSD for that information.
I'm super hopeful that I'll receive an offer! NICU nursing is truly where my heart lies. I precepted at a level III NICU (out of state) and loved every moment of it.
Best of luck ALIinSD with regards to the SMB L&D new grad position. Keep us posted!
For all of those that are frustrated submitting applications with few or no responses (cue crickets chirping), hang in there! I haven't been offered a position, but I am thrilled to FINALLY be receiving some employer interest. I have been stocking hospital websites daily and I've submitted dozens of apps online with 0 responses, for a little over 6 months now. Between reworking my resumes, writing cover letters, volunteering, networking, submitting applicaitons, and interviewing - the process has just about turned into its own full time job (without the handy-dandy paycheck). In a weird twist of fate, I checked my email before leaving Grossmont this morning (in the parking garage - not ANYWHERE near the interview) and UCSD contacted me with a supplemental form to complete and email back for a New Grad Perinatal NICU/FMCC position that I applied for there. Not sure anything will come of it. I've applied for this position in the past and heard nothing. However, it is reassuring to hear that our applications are occasionally read by someone, sometime after being sent into cyberspace. We all have to remain determined, stay positive, and keep applying!!!
