SHARP Winter 2013/2014 New Nurse Residency

Published

Hello! It's that exciting time again!

:)

I'm starting this thread to support, advise, and inform each other about this residency program. If you don't mind, share a little bit about yourselves.

Graduation date: Degree type: healthcare experience: Any special skills or certificates:

Thanks!

I graduated back in December 2012. I have a couple of months of experience as a RN and a year experience as a CNA. I graduated with a ASN and am currently working on my BSN. This will be my 4rth time applying to Sharps NNRP!!! I have the basic certifications (BLS and ACLS) I applied to Grossmont's PCU and telemetry/MS.

Specializes in Hospice & Palliative Care, Oncology, M/S.
Thanks for all the info you gave us @Coriander! I think I heard Sharp has a preference for people living in SD or people who went to nursing school in SD. Is this true?

I don't think so. A lot of us are from SD, but a few were hired from outside of the city and some programs hired outside the state. And you're welcome!

Thanks again for that info, @Coriander! I really appreciate all the info you have posted on this thread!

Yes thank you Coriander! Did anyone apply to Scripps?? I only ask cuz I think the app closes tomorrow and yet I bet we hear back from them before Sharp. Scripps seems pretty fast! But let's hope we all hear from sharp soon!!!

Hello Everyone! I was called today by Mary Birch to schedule an L&D interview mid-november. I am glad I have plenty of time to prepare as I heard these Sharp interviews are very tough!

I hope some good news come to everyone soon!!=)

Congrats on getting an interview, SWM_RN! Good luck with prepping and it's great they are letting you know a couple weeks in advance!

If you don't mind me asking, are you from SD or did you go to school in SD?

Thank you so much!! This was my third time applying to Sharp, and my first time getting any response after turning in my application. I understand how hard this whole process is, so I am sincerely rooting for everyone!

I did go to school in San Diego and got assigned to Sharp for several clinical semesters. I know the rumor is that hospitals like to hire nurses from local schools, but I remember meeting a lot of nurses at Sharp from outside SD. I also know that it's up to each hiring manager who is picked for interviews so they may not have a personal preference about that at all!

Thanks for the info, @SWM_RN! Oh wow it's your third time applying, I am even more happy for you! And you had clinicals at Sharp, I'm hoping you get some good news in the near future!

I don't believe that hospitals in San Diego generally prioritize locals when it comes to hiring. Not significantly anyways , especially seeing how competitive the area is, magnet status and goals for BSN graduates.

Great News! I got a call today from the hiring recruiter for Grossmont PCU residency rotation. I have an interview November 20th! I asked and they are only interviewing 8 people for 4 positions!!! She said they really narrowed it down and went through the applications carefully!! Good luck to everyone else. Keep us posted! I didn't think that I was going to hear from Sharp until after Thanksgiving so this was a good Friday treat!

You go girl!!! :) Congratulations.

8 interviews for 4 positions?!?!, well I'm sure then that they have been all contacted today :( I applied to Grossmont's PCU residency but didn't hear anything from them.

Oh my gosh, congrats on the interview & good luck, Linds_12! If you don't mind, can you let us know a little about you? Did you do any of your rotation at Sharp? Are you an SD resident? Is your GPA >=3.5? Are you certified in anything other than BLS? Do you have a reference at Sharp? Lastly, any volunteer experience? I know it's a lot of question but just wanted to gauge how they choose their candidates. Thank you so much and you must be so excited right now!! :)

Thank you guys! I am very excited. I have always wanted to work for Sharp, although now I think it is the hard part in nailing the interview.

SD_RN13 I thought your first choice was Memorial? I know that each hospital contacts at different times so there is still hope!

ADEcstatic, don't worry about all the questions, because I was asking a lot last time because I never got an interview either. I actually went to school in Las Vegas for my ABSN, so none of my clinicals were with Sharp.; however, I am from San Diego. I received a 4.0 GPA. I am CPR/BLS, PALS, and ACLS certified. I volunteered for about 9 months on a L&D unit during school. I am currently working as a RN for a Pediatric home health. I previously worked for Sharp, but only for a couple of months as a Clerical Assistant. I am not sure what they look for in candidates when they screen our resumes; however, I think it is very important to apply ASAP. I think I got my resume in, along with the supplemental questions, within 15 minutes.

Hope this helps a little and good luck!!
