SFSU

Hey everyone. With so many programs sending acceptance letters I am checking to see if anyone has heard from SFSU?

^ yeah I think SFSU is requiring it now. I wish they made it a requirement for fall 2010 because getting in w/out work experience is basically impossible. and No you don't really need to know any physiology. the science on the teas is really random. alot of general science, some basic chem, and random science questions.

Thanks for the response! Have you taken the TEAS yet? how was it? I'm afraid it will be hella hard! As for work/volunt experience... i do not have any... im actually starting it this summer.. ughh!!! so frustrated. i feel like i want to quit nursing and do something else in the meantime just because it is so competitive. >:o

the teas isn't that hard if u buy the ATI study guide and study well in advance. check out the teas sticky thread in the pre-nursing section- there is a lot of good info there.

as for volunteering- I don't even think it helps that much. the paid work experience and maybe the second language (if u have it) will help you more I think.

Hello,

I just got into SFSU Nursing(!!) for fall 2010. I'm really excited and relieved to start so soon.

Anyway, I live in Berkeley and I'm considering commuting instead of moving. It will probably take an hour and a half. Is this a terrible idea? To anyone who has taken the program, do you think it's possible to commute or will it be too much stress on top of the program? Also, are the clinicals all over the bay area? Do we get any choice in where we go for clinicals based on where we live?

thanks

We are going to be classmates! Woot!

Well, I don't know if I would drive from Berkeley everyday, but Bart would be a viable option on non-clinical days because the school has a shuttle that goes from Bart to campus. From what a graduate of the program said in a thread (can't remember if it was this one or not) the clinicals can be all over the Bay Area.

nursetobe1975 thanks for all the info so if it is 5 semester long is it 2.5 years? For the drug exam your talking about the test that comes after orientation what happens if a student does not pass? Is it simple calculations of dosages?

Hi all, I'm in my second semester at SFSU.

Lots of my classmates commute in from all over the East Bay, some from much further away than Berkeley. If you can take public transit (BART), it's a bit less stressful than driving. Some people carpool together. However, bridge tolls and BART fares can really add up, so unless it's a lot cheaper for you to live in Berkeley, you might want to consider living in SF (I do.) I take public trans, drive, or ride my bike, depending on the day.

It's really important to have reliable transportation for clinicals, too--even living here in SF, some of the sites are way across town from me, and shifts either start REALLY EARLY or end REALLY LATE. :)

Anywho, congratulations everyone! It was a year ago that I got my acceptance letter, and I screamed, I was so happy.

ro'smom : glad to hear you were so excitied about the program do you know how long it is 2 and a half years? How was your first semester there? IS there any advice you can give to the new commers? Would you say that coming into the program you should know your anatomy physio and micro in and out or do you think they kinda of go over the importance of each part again? Any other info of your first semester would be great to thanks :p

Thanks Reebles and Ro'smom for the responses :)

It definitely eases my mind to know that a lot of people commute. (Oh that group mentality :)

I was thinking about either taking BART or the trans-bay bus. Do we get any discounts on Bus fares for the trans-bay or the muni? I know if I take BART there's a free shuttle from there, which is sweet. With the trans-bay I'd take MUNI from downtown to the SFSU campus.

I know the transportation is expensive but in my particular situation (which I won't bore you with) it's more cost effective to commute.

Yipee!! Just checked and my admission status changed to admitted :) I applied to their MSN-FNP program. :clown: Not sure if I will go but I am happy to have the chanse.

jl11, as far as I know there are not really any student discounts for BART or the trans-bay bus. Sometimes it's possible to buy large-value BART tickets for a slight discount, and I think they do have them for sale in the Student Center, but it's not much of a discount. Though of course, every penny helps.

Another way to save money is to team up with another classmate to buy the book bundle; that way you can both use the online access codes, and one of you can buy the older versions of the textbooks online for much cheaper.

:ancong!: youknowho ( and everyone else that got the good news ) !!!! I am super happy for you! I applied to the GMSN program, and have not heard anything yet. My status is still in department review. Oh...I am getting extremely anxious. This is not looking too good..yikes!!!

Have you received your acceptance letter already?
