SFSU

Hey everyone. With so many programs sending acceptance letters I am checking to see if anyone has heard from SFSU?

Hello everyone!!

I got my acceptance letter last Friday and start SFSU spring 2011. Congrats to everyone that got in. I'll keep my fingers crossed for eveyone still waiting. :)

Cal94710:

Just to clarify . . the admissions office told you that you need to file a change of major? My major still says my second choice of Sociology and the nursing department said the admissions office will change it for me. I just don't want to miss an important step!

Thanks!

SFSUMEGS : Congrats I got the exact same letter as you. Do you live in SF i live like 8 hours away and am so worried i have no idea what to expect are you planning to go to any transfer days?

elacer08: Congrats!! Wow, that's a big move for you to come to San Francisco. I currently live in San Jose and will be moving to S.F. I'm attending the 7/10 orientation. Do you plan to attend one?

I do plan on attending the one in july but I am still waiting to hear back from my nursing school in june as well. Can you tell me a little bit about the campus and other stuff. I saw from the virtual tour that it was really big. I was really shocked I made it in and didn't expect it so I am not to familiar with the program is there anything you can fill me in on? anything would be great thanks and congrats to you :]

I applied to the BSN Canada College program and I'm really confused. I emailed the person in charge at Canada but haven't had a reply from her. When I check my admission status on the SFSU website, wehre it used to say "your aplication is currently under review by SEQUOIA", it now says "Congratulations! We are pleased to inform you that you have been admitted to San Francisco State University. "

but I have not had any letter in the mail (or email) directly confirming or denying my entrace into the Nursing Program in particular.

Does being admitted to SFSU mean I'm admitted to the Nursing program? i was assuming not, since I ahd to apply to both the unviersity and the nusring program (I'm a transfer student) separately.

Can anyone help me out here, please? The wait is making me a little crazy :)

On the admission status page what does it have your major listed as?

It says Primary Major: Nursing (Sequoia Hosp Non-RN) and that I'm a Junior.

That looks like an acceptance to me! On the Thursday before I got my letter, my status updated to accepted to SFSU and my major was Nursing. I got my letter that Saturday saying I was accepted.

I would expect you to get a letter by Thursday! I have 3 friends that got into that program, so if you want some good people to study with, let me know. I am going to the program at State.

Thanks! I'll keep an eye out and my fingers crossed and I'll let you know when I know :) and Congrats to you!!! So exciting!

Are you planning on working at all during the program?? I was hoping not to have to, but I don't want a huge mountain of debt at the end and I'm trying to figure out how best to make it work. I may end up having to work just to save myself a few g's by the time I graduate.

I am not planning on working at all, though I am very lucky that I am in the situation that my fiance has a good job so he is able to pay the mortgage and the bills so I have the ability to focus on school full time. I told him after I am done with school I will pay it for a few years. LOL

If I were you I would maybe try working the first semester and see how it goes, if your work starts to interfere with your progress in school I would say to take the debt.

My fiance found a great website that helps you manage your personal finances, including creating a budget. We have both started using it and I have to say it rocks.

Reebles: Congrats on getting in! Are you starting the nursing program in spring or fall?

elacer08: I wish I had some information for you. I did not attend an advising session before I applied. I have been to the campus several times and while it is big, it doesn't seem that way after a couple visits. I applied there because I've worked with nurses that graduated from SFSU and they are always good. Several doctors I've worked with have nothing but good things to say about them as well.

What other school are you waiting to hear from?

I am a graduate from the SFSU BSN nursing program and I want to congratulate the ones that got accepted. Just to release some of your anxiety I want to tell you a little about the campus and the program. The campus is big and beautiful but until the library is built it's a pain to get to the annex library so don't count too much on using it. There are however many computer labs in every building so if you need a quick printing job for your homework, if you give yourself a little time, you will be able to do it. Food on campus is pretty good with plenty of choices. The only problem is, overcrowding, so think ahead.

Now about the nursing program! Most classes are in Burk Hall on 3rd and 2nd floor. When you go in for your orientation you will feel excited and freaked out at the same time. Take a deep breath! There are some great professors and some that suck and some of the work you will have to do will seem ridiculous to you. Well, do it and tell yourself that nursing school is boot camp and the real learning starts on the floor after you have graduated and no matter how interminable nursing school seems, it does end. The first semester is the hardest because you don't know what to expect. Go to every class because it will help you in the long run and you are more likely to get the professors ear if they see you present. Also some of the professors have an ego trip about you being there. If you want to know what to expect from your professor, go to Rate My Professors - Find and rate your professor, campus and more - RateMyProfessors.com and you will find info on most of them unless they are new. Some of the professors you will love more than you ever loved a professor and some you will wonder how the hell they got a degree in anything, let alone be professors. Those are very few though! The best preparation for exams in nursing schools is doing NCLEX questions. For me I bought Saunder's NCLEX review and also the ATI NCLEX review books, not the ones the make you buy but suplemental ones you find at the book store. So again I just worked those throughout nursing school and not only that I graduated Summa cum Laude but I passed the NCLEX with less than a week review.

I don't know what else to tell you. Feel free to ask me questions, and I will do my best to guide you.

Good luck everyone!!!
