Is all nursing experience equal?
Thanks for the feedback, everyone! I am also of the opinion that as long as it's inpatient nursing, it's valuable experience. I just needed some unbiased input on the situation :) Going to go check out the hospital in person (offered the job after a telephone interview) and get a feel for the unit before signing on the dotted line. Any big ticket questions or things I should take note of while I am there that you seasoned nurses know tend to play a role in the atmosphere / functioning of inpatient units?

Is all nursing experience equal?
I hope I'm posting this thread in the right place... I am a new grad from the Bay Area. I have put in over 30 job applications: Northern CA, Southern CA, Idaho, Minnesota, Washington, and Arkansas. I have been offered a job in Arkansas on an inpatient Oncology Unit. Granted, I have family there, which would ease the transition tremendously, but my family (the part that lives here in CA) has grave concerns about this being a potential issue in the future, so now I'm wondering if, after a year or two, I decide that I want to try and move back to CA, will experience as an RN in AR hinder, or help me? What do you think?

RN PAY IN ARKANSAS
A little late, but in case you are still wondering: I'm a new grad from CA and have recently received a job offer from a hospital in Fort Smith - HR tells me that new grad RN pay is $19.17 an hour not including the added $3.50/hour for night shift differential. I don't know if this is normal for this area - that's why I'm on here trying to figure it out :) but coming from the Bay Area in CA where new grads earn $40-$50/hour not including differential, it seems way low. Then again, cost of living in AR is a far cry from CA.

SFSU/Canada College BSN Applicant Thread, Fall 2010 Cohort
For those of you who are wondering - I got an email back from the coordinator the other day - she says that the Canada program costs $300 a unit and that there are 59 units in the major. This does not cover the cost for labs, textbooks and/or other miscellaneous nursing supplies. And that yes, orientation information will be mailed out in mid June or so. :)

SFSU/Canada College BSN Applicant Thread, Fall 2010 Cohort
Oh I am SO happy to see this thread!! And to see that other people are in the same boat! :) I have not received anything from the Nursing Department in the mail yet, and last week, after calling and emailing Canada College (without success) I received a call from someone in the University Center. He told me that the person in charge of the Satellite BSN Program was out until this week, but that I was on his list of accepted students for the program. He also said to call back if I still didn't get anything by Monday (yesterday). but, still no mail so i've been trying to get hold of someone again, and I'm getting a little frustrated. I'm just so scared that I miss a deadline. But I have declared my intent to register and will get my immunization stuff to them this week. I was trying to decide if I should enroll in the SFSU orientation, but after reading the previous posts, I think I'll wait for the one at Canada. Does anyone know when the orientation is?? And how about the cost? I spoke to someone at SFSU who said that the cost of the satellite program is different to the SFSU program but she wasn't able to tell me how is was different.

Cost of Classes for SFSU Sequoia/Canada Progra
Hey MJ415 Yeah, that's what I'm hoping, but it also says that the Canada classes are offered through the College of Extended Learning, and if you look at their fees, they quote $900 for each 3 unit nursing class.

Cost of Classes for SFSU Sequoia/Canada Progra
I'm going to be attending the SFSU Sequoia BSN Program beginning in the fall :) (very very happy me!!) and from the info I have found on SFSU's website, it appears that the classes for the Sequoia/Canada College Program are $300 a unit ($900 per 3 unit class). Does ANYONE have any idea if this is correct??!?!? If so - ouch! I'd better start looking at private student loans because the federal ones sure won't cover the cost.

SFSU
Thanks! I'll keep an eye out and my fingers crossed and I'll let you know when I know :) and Congrats to you!!! So exciting! Are you planning on working at all during the program?? I was hoping not to have to, but I don't want a huge mountain of debt at the end and I'm trying to figure out how best to make it work. I may end up having to work just to save myself a few g's by the time I graduate.

SFSU
I applied to the BSN Canada College program and I'm really confused. I emailed the person in charge at Canada but haven't had a reply from her. When I check my admission status on the SFSU website, wehre it used to say "your aplication is currently under review by SEQUOIA", it now says "Congratulations! We are pleased to inform you that you have been admitted to San Francisco State University. " but I have not had any letter in the mail (or email) directly confirming or denying my entrace into the Nursing Program in particular. Does being admitted to SFSU mean I'm admitted to the Nursing program? i was assuming not, since I ahd to apply to both the unviersity and the nusring program (I'm a transfer student) separately. Can anyone help me out here, please? The wait is making me a little crazy :)
