SFSU/Canada College BSN Applicant Thread, Fall 2009 Cohort

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello Everybody,

I thought I would make a thread for those of us who will be applying to the SFSU/Canada College BSN program, fall 2009 cohort. Maybe we could share our stats, frustrations, thoughts about the nursing profession, etc.

As for me, I have two prerequisites left to complete. I am taking one right now, and I will take the last one during spring 2009. I anticipate that I will have about a 3.7 GPA in the prerequisite courses.

I have also met two of the supplementary criteria. With as competitive as it is, I know that it's pretty much a coin toss as to whether I get in or not. I'm just hoping for a little luck.

Good luck to all of you.

Hey does anybody know when we the earliest we might find out about the wait list? i know it could be after the first day of nursing school when people dont show up. but i hope it is sooner!! good luck to everybody

Hi Katwag 87,

I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing that it might be in early may, shortly after the intent to register deadline. I'm also on the wait list. Let's hope for the best. Hopefully, some spots will open up.

Yes, I got in. I just called Canada College nursing department and a very nice lady told me that the decision letter will be going out this week. Good luck to everyone!

hey if you call (650) 306-3291 (the science dept) just ask them to transfer you to the nursing dept. you wont be bothersome. everyone is really nice there. good luck!!!!!!

i didnt get in...so good look to the rest of you!

I called the nursing department and found that I got in. I wonder how many males were accepted including myself. I didn't realize there was a Fall '09 or a Spring '10 class. Do I need to call back and see which one I was accepted to?

Also, for ENIGMA2174, you mentioned taking Seg III. May I ask you what that is? I've never taken a class at SFSU but I've got my BA from UC Davis in '06. Do I need to take some kind of class before the nursing program begins?

Lastly, I don't even know the cost of attendance. Anyone have a clue?

Thanks!

Ken

segment 3 is SFSU's GE requirement for graduation. it's all upperdivision. they consist of 3 classes worth about 9 units total. they are clusters of catagorical studies that you may choose from (consult with an adivser for help). all SFSU students who want to graduate from SFSU needs to complete that as well as the OASIS competency requirement(can be done online, dont procrastinate). if you start clinicals spring '10, then it is in your best interest to begin and complete your Segment 3 the semester before as well as any other GE you didnt fulfill at your previous institution.

Thanks for replying Snake. Do I take these courses while I'm in the program? In other words, am I taking the nursing program courses AND somewhere fit in Seg III and OASIS? Seems much if so.

Thanks again,

Ken

you can but if i were to be accepted to begin the spring of '10 clinicals, then i would use the fall '09 to take all my segment 3 classes.

take a look at this example for the semester-by-semester curriculum pattern plan for this year's nursing program:

http://www.sfsu.edu/~admisrec/reg/roadmaps/2008342303.pdf

look under 5th semester, that's where transfers begin.

look at this for more segment 3 GE:

http://www.sfsu.edu/~bulletin/current/ge2.htm

you can choose whatever cluster you want to satisfy.

when i was at the NSA for sfsu, one of the members said she had a full load just doing clinicals and GE segment 3. her advice, try taking it during the summer if offered and try to get rid of them asap. most people say they're a waste of time.

Is english 214 a transferable course from a community college? I dont see it on assist. assist is never always right so just making sure. thanks for all the info solidus

yes ENG 214 is. some community colleges have it available some don't.

bxdo, what cc did you go to? maybe i can help.

i went to de anza

Thank you for your useful information! Do you know if GE segment 3 courses must be taken @ SFSU? What if I have taken similar courses at UC campus? Thanks!
