SFSU/Canada College BSN Applicant Thread, Fall 2009 Cohort

Published

Hello Everybody,

I thought I would make a thread for those of us who will be applying to the SFSU/Canada College BSN program, fall 2009 cohort. Maybe we could share our stats, frustrations, thoughts about the nursing profession, etc.

As for me, I have two prerequisites left to complete. I am taking one right now, and I will take the last one during spring 2009. I anticipate that I will have about a 3.7 GPA in the prerequisite courses.

I have also met two of the supplementary criteria. With as competitive as it is, I know that it's pretty much a coin toss as to whether I get in or not. I'm just hoping for a little luck.

Good luck to all of you.

Yay! I got in. Incredible. Take that CSUN, CSM and maybe CCSF! Anyone else with an acceptance?

Enigma..Thanks so much for your advice. Especially about being proactive to claim the acceptance letter. Once I spoke to the admissions woman and got accepted, I asked her when I should expect a letter and deadline to respond...per your suggestion! For others..she said to expect the letter by the 28th, if not, then call her.

Congrats Peoplehelper, way to go!!:yeah: Do you mind sharing your stats with us?

I called Canada this morning and I did not get in. She said there will be a meeting in June for people who did not get in to go over their applications. Ugh, I am beyond bummed...

I made the wait list too. I'm pretty happy about that because I really thought that I would be denied.

Xtine009, I guess were still alive. Let's hope for the best

CAangelindisguies, I'm sorry about you not getting in. Are you going to try again next year? I know I will if I don't make it this time.

Does anyone know if it is possible to work part time during the program?

they said that it's recommended not to work, but if you must, work for minimum hours per week.

good job to everyone and congrats! i wish you all the best of luck!

Did anyone receive a letter in the mail yet? Just curious...

Wow I've never heard of the sfsu/canada college program until I looked it up right now.

That's awesome. I'm only a pre-nursing student right now and I plan on actually transferring to sfsu after I'm done with nursing for my bsn. If you could explain this to me or just give me any helpful advice it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Does anyone know if it is possible to work part time during the program?

Congratulations to you and everyone else who made it in this time around! To answer your question. Yes, you can work if you are organized with your time. I would suggest that you attend the first couple of weeks look at the syllabus, look at your selected day for clinical (remember you will also need to write careplans CP)some people have said it takes them 8 hours to write a perfect CP, others 2 hours..) Clinical preps require you to go to the site the day or two before and select a patient come home and write the plan the night before, for the clinical starting in the morning, in some sites its in the afternoon. Some hospitals don't want students around at certain times... You have assignments due from some of the classes, you have to keep up with the readings for ALL classes.

You know yourself better, just consider everything and plan ahead, get a calender and put in all due dates/important dates and figure out what it will require of you.

btw, you wont starting clinicals until end of Sept... after you do your drug calculation test...

Hey does anybody know when we the earliest we might find out about the wait list? i know it could be after the first day of nursing school when people dont show up. but i hope it is sooner!! good luck to everybody

which number did you call for the canada program for admissions status? I found a few numbers but don't want to bother anyone with wrong numbers...

Try calling the nursing department at Canada College. I don't have the actual number right now. The lady that I spoke to there was really nice, and she answered all of my questions.

Good luck to you. Let us know how it goes.
