Sex in the workplace.....what do YOU think should be done?

Published

Recently, at our small community hospital, the only hospitalist on the 7p-7a shift wasn't answering his pager when a CCU nurse was looking for him about a patient. After several attempts to reach him, she went looking for him, thinking he might be sleeping(that's allowed) Upon hearing voices behind the sleep room door, she summoned the Nsg supervisor, who found the door to be locked. She in turn got a maintenance man to unlock the door. Behind the door, she found quite a sight. The hospitalist and an off duty nurse. She was naked, he scrambling for his clothes. Both are married--not to each other.

She was given a mere 2 days suspension. He works for a physicians group that staffs hospitals, and we have not seen him since.

She has worked for the hospital for many years. What do YOU think should happen to her?

I think suspension is okay.

although if the nurse was off dutty then I feel it is diffrent. Either way maybe they should have done that somewhere else.

just saying... ;)

OP, any thoughts?

Why are you so concerned about what should be done to her? Why is there no mention of what should be done to HIM? Its takes two to you know what...if anyone should be in more trouble its HIM, she was the one off the clock; not him. Her suspension was served, its non of your business of she should get a more harsh punishment. And why didn't the CCU nurse just knock?

I have to wonder, by the OP seeming disappointed that the suspension was just two days, if the OP is involved in this in some way, shape or form.

Not saying the OP had wanted a piece of the action...but it seems like they have some connection to the whole situation, and I wonder what it is.

BOTH have moral issues and lack of judgment. But that is not against the law and you cannot reprimand unless it is against policy. The BON might be interested, but I would recommend contacting AMA as well.

The BON will care less. I've contacted them with way more important things and didn't receive much as a response. Now if the nurse had sex with a pt. that is a different story...

dang-I WISH I still had enough hormones in place to even WANT to do the nasty-at any time.

I was offered sex in a hospital once.We were both employee... I wasn't on the clock, he was. Even though I was young (16), I just didn't couldn't do it, not there....

Now the lake, movies, and other places... no problem.

Fire her. Her presence in the hospital (by keeping the hospitalist away from his primary duties) indirectly affected patient care. Also, there are many unemployed nurses out there that would be more than happy to take her job and take it more seriously.

REALLY???? The hospitalist is the one who was affecting patient care.... he was the one not answering his page. He would have not answered the page regardless of who he was sleeping with.... be it a nurse, admin, housekeeper, or civilian.

OK noises. What IF IT WAS A DOC (OR PERVERT) WITH A YOUNG TEEN OR OLDER CHILD? huh?

Some kind of rookie, that hospitalist.

My niece's generation ...well, she can text with one hand, and do it without looking. She can text holding her phone inside her purse - so she tells me that's what she did in highschool. Apparently that hospitalist needs some skilllz. Just say'in.

I feel bad for that nurse. Word will get around and she will prob get treated differently and get snide marks sent her way.

Now this is affirming the stereotype that nurses and doctors are having affairs at work. greeeat :p

What stereotype, they do. In the 40 so years that I have been in this Wonderland. I've seen Nurse + Doctors, Nurse+Patient, Doctors+Patient, Patient + Patient.and Nurse+Nurse(Both females) in Day rooms, Exam Rooms, Parking Lots, Basements and Morgues. I just close the doors and went on my way. None of my business In no instance safety involved. Just people spreading their pollen.

Then I wouldn't be standing around listening at the door, then getting the supervisor, then getting the maitenence man. The key to all of this was that there was no knocking on the door, no loudly stating "Dr. so and so you are needed in CCU, Stat". Just some intent listening (CREEPY) and some ulterior motivation....What would have made this even better would be if they busted in to find the MD on the toilet or in the shower, with Grey's blaring on the TV......

This might be one of the most entertaining threads ever. :)

I wanna find a hospital with such a relaxed enviroment that people just sneak away and scrogg (is that a naughty word?). Must be a really relaxed facility where everyone wears whatever they want and the kitchen is always open. I don't get horny at work, I get hungry.
