So I'm starting med/surg 1 this semester and will be starting clinicals the first week of February. We received notice today that we will need to be fitted for scrubs that will be ordered by the school - no exceptions! The class was then told that our scrubs will cost $200, and it's only for 2 tops, 2 bottoms, a lab coat and an apron for the girls. Am I the only person that thinks this is INSANE!!???
I was just looking at the uniform for where I'm planning on doing my degree through and the name badge is $7.00 and the shirt is $27.95. I'm not sure what I have to wear on the bottom half but I already have a few pairs of Black pants/skirts plus black lace up leather shoes that I wear for work anyway so I should be right. I'm not sure what the local Uni costs for uniforms.
The scrubs for my ADN program cost (depending on size):
pants $8.77-17.60 but we need two colors so at least have to buy 2 pair
top for clinicals $22.07-31.30 top for classes/labs $9.67-11.47
warm up jacket $10.80-11.77
lab coat $11.95-12.95
we buy shoes on our own as long as they are close toed, non-porous and ALL WHITE
The apron is apparently because our school likes to present a "traditional" image of nursing during clinicals, and the patients we take care of "just absolutely love it". Nevermind that it's 2013. At least they're giving us the option of paying for this in two installments instead of all at once - I don't know about anybody else, but the start to this semester has been incredibly expensive!!! Maybe it's just my school........trying to keep in mind that I just have to get through 1.5 years and then I'll have my BSN. It's my new mantra lol (although I'm absolutely grateful to be here, since it was so hard to get into school in the first place!)

$100-ish for 1 pair of pants, 2 tops and a jacket. Terrible quality, uncomfortable and unflattering and the pants were near dead by graduation. We had to order from this particular company. They suggested 2 of everything, I was a poor student, so no
Turns out I didn't even need two shirts, I had plenty of time to wash everything.
I regretted the jacket, the only piece we could buy different brands of. I didn't know that when I bought it. It was ugly but it covered up the super-ugly of our uniform. It got stolen at clinicals right before graduation. I had to have one for pinning, so I bought a nicer one!
I envy people who could choose what brand! I pay a little more for Koi now, because I think it's very comfortable and that's important to me.
