Sad that we may need a category for this.
Another school shooting in NoCal.
Thinking of NoCalMimi and hoping she's okay.
This is not the solution I want. We have an armed officer. That gun is enough. I cannot figure out why we just keep throwing more and more guns at the problem. I do not want my kid to go to a school where the only reason he feels safe is because all his teachers carry guns. Also mental health services are not the answer either. Putting the blame of shootings on mentally ill people increases stigma and is a discrimanatory tactic used to shift the blame from gun control to health care.
Yeah, I know that criminals will find a way to get a gun. But I tell you what, making it harder to get one is a good place to start.
This. So much this. It makes me sick how Americans cling to their guns.
The first step I'm taking is signing up for additional first responder training for school nurses in my state.
Even if given the opportunity, I won't go to training and carry a firearm. It is not my nature and I am not a person anyone wants carrying in a school. I have thoughts and feelings about teachers being armed and I'm not too keen on the idea myself, but I know I'm in a school and a state where that isn't likely to happen.
But one thing I am keen on is getting more training on how to help as the only medical personal in my school. That I can and will do.
And I will continue to try and get to know the students so that perhaps I can the link to help a student/get a student help before he/she reaches this point.

Alllllllllllll of this.
And yes, the Teachers' Union is very strong in NYS. Plus, Cuomo isn't too keen on it, either. It will never happen here, and for that I'm grateful.

Check out "Stop The Bleed" training.
I'm planning on attending the School Emergency Triage Training offered by NASN in my state in April.
We have a staff development day today. District wide training, "Civilian response to active shooter events." I'll let you know how it went, recommendations.

We are as well. Today in school, and one by the town and police this week.

We had that back in MY day, too, and no one was shooting up schools.
