Hello school nurses! I am a school nurse trying to conduct some research on how much school nurses make (hourly/salary/number of hours worked annually) and if you are part of a union (specifically your own union or the teachers union) Thank you in advance for any information.
In MA (in the poorer part of the state); 6 years experience in school nursing, worked exclusively Peds for 5 years prior... I work 183 days, 7hour days. I'm in the teacher's union, Bachelor's column and I make just over $60k/year, about half-way up the scale. I also hold the district nurse leader position, which is a $10k stipend position. When I wrote the job description for the DNL role (ha), I anticipated 4-6 extra hours per week, but thus far, it's been less than an hour of work per week outside of my regular hours, so things are great there! We'll see how that tide turns once flu/COVID season really hit......

Depending on where you are some districts use SchoolSpring...I would look at area schools websites. If yo have kids, check witht he nurse at their school-if they have one. Good Luck!

Ditto to the above - SchoolSpring, direct contact with schools. If you are also just wondering what it might be like, almost all districts/schools with nurses will be looking for substitutes. So if you can make it work with your current job, see about subbing locally to get your feet wet! This can also open doors to full time in that school/district when the time comes! A school will almost always choose someone familiar with the role and school over a stranger!

I am also part of my local CWA union that is offered to those who are eligible to join in my school district. I did work at a charter school for 5.5 years and was not part of a union. When I decided to go back to my local school district, I chose to become part of the union.
What area are you in? I'm making $30/hr in Tampa area but working through a staffing agency, and would love to re-join an actual school district.
Just adding the info from my area in CA, but salaries for school RNs in the various districts in my county range from $65,000 to $120,000 which is a large range admittedly. 8ish hours days, though nurses often can come a bit late or leave early if they need to. Around 14 weeks of vacation, and since there is Summer school and some year round schools, you can generally take time off whenever you want.

NH many years, Masters 91K not in the CBA but benefits are and pay are pretty similar. 186 days plus I get my hourly rate for about 40 hours in the Summer for transition, file review and culling of files for incoming class and new students and spend a lot of time with athletics registration and monitoring physicals and concussion testing.
