Saunders or Kaplan???

Published

Which is a better study guide- Saunders 3rd Edition Comp review or Kaplan?? I have been doing Saunders questions (about 150 a day) and I hope thats all I need, but I keep hearing people say that the questions on the actual NCLEX really resemble KAPLAN questions!! Is that true? What should I do???

My test questions did resemble Saunders questions but the answer options were different style and it was harder to decide which one was more correct than the other.

I really liked Saunders.

I am also using Saunders and am wondering if I should buy a Kaplan book d/t everyone saying that the actual NCLEX questions are more similar to Kaplan. I would like to hear any responses as well.

I just took the test Monday & I definitely think the question style & difficulty was more similar to Kaplan. I also liked Kaplan's "decision tree" for helping to answer some questions.

I think the two compliment each other - Saunders is good for content review, Kaplan for critical thinking, priority, etc... actual NCLEX methods.

I used the Kaplan Review and the Saunders book to study and I think that the questions were MOST similar to the Sauders -CD that is included with the book. However they were both excellent to use together. I passed with 75 questions and it took me less than two hours. I felt comfortable answering the questions but was SCARED TO DEATH when the computer shut off and the 48 hours it took me to find out. Hope this helps and Good Luck!

Just to point out, I seen the Kaplan book...The Kaplan book is a lot thinner than Saunders..Saunders, it seems like you would need a lot of time to read through all of it..But if it is a thinner book, I guess you can absorb more and remember it more..Just a feeling but, I did not take the NCLEX yet..

i have to agree, saunders is great for review...i was doing the end of the chapter review exams, and when i didn't score well, i would review the chapter. i also did many many quizes from the cd, i like that i could pick the area and only had to comit to 10 questions at a time.

kaplan however, is great for answering questions. an example is how to eliminate certain answers, or how to use your abc's and maslow etc.

i personally like the online mosby cat, great boost to you confidence (if you pass) and to me questions were simillar as far as level of difficulty to the nclex...
