Samuel Merritt University ELMSN Fall 2021

Hey All

I haven't yet seen a forum for this cohort yet and I wanted to start one! Applications are due soon and wanted to see how others are going along with the process and see if theres any advice or recommendations that anyone has. This could be with the application, interviews, pre-reqs, HESI, etc. I appreciate those who comment and add to the forum!

A little about me: originally from NYC moved out to Oakland in 2015. I worked in Urgent Care, and have volunteer work during Covid-19. Finishing up a few pre-reqs now and hopefully will have them done in time for the application due date Dec 1st. Let me know if there are any other questions for me, I am very interested to see the backgrounds of others who are also applying, its a stressful but exciting time for everyone! ?

P.S. if there is a forum for the Fall 2021 ELMSN program please link it!

I have recently had to download Discord to use for some online classes. I would definitely recommend using discord rather than FB, or maybe in addition to FB. If some people would rather steer away from using another application, I get it, but in my experience it’s been really useful since you can also direct message classmates. One server can be made for the cohort and conversation can be categorized like “#midterm1“ or “#HomeworkQuestions”

That sounds great! I'm not attached to FB at all. Maybe we'll all discuss once we have the final cohorts?

I agree its weird, a bit unsettling LOL, and makes me anxious about the upcoming responses ? The only way I can imagine admissions is doing this, is if they still had enough seats to continue considering students while sending out responses, meaning they probably already sent out some rejections and may be possibly waitlists as well? Maybe they have an algorithm? IDK just hypothesizing because the stress just has my mind making up stories in my head.

Yeah that’s true. Maybe they did send out rejections or have seats available for students. Praying for us all. Good luck everyone!

I was surprised to hear that some acceptances went out too since yesterday was the last day of CM interviews. I haven't heard back either. Hopefully we'll hear from them this weekend! ?

Yess. Hopefully!! Good luck friend.

Hi im super curious but did anyone who applied for both tracks get an interview for both or just one?

My theory is that they sent out acceptances to their top candidates, and are waiting until the interviews are over to choose who gets accepted, waitlisted, and rejected.

Does anyone know how many seats are available for each FNP cohort? I was looking on their website and it says 54, but is that including both Fall and Spring (so 27 for each)?

I believe so. I think they have about 24 +/- a couple of spots per semester. So, FNP gets 24 and CM gets 24 in the fall and same for the Spring.
hope that helps

I am curious to know why was CM interview done by 1:1? And why was FNP interview done in a group?

For FNP interview, Did you have time to talk and express your ideas?

I thought maybe they have the FNP as a group just because of the volume of applicants they get vs CM usually has less. I could be wrong it is just a guess?

It makes sense.  I had that thought too.

For those people who got FNP interview, did you (guys) have enough time to express your answer? Did you get along well with your group?

In terms of structure/what was asked during the FNP interview, I personally think we should wait until everyone is finished interviewing to discuss how it went and the questions that were asked. I feel like it's super unfair to discuss these things now because people interviewing later would potentially have an upper hand in what to prepare for vs. someone who interviewed earlier. Just trying to keep things fair for all!

well, I think you misunderstood my question.  I did not ask what were questions during the interview?

I just want to know what people's feelings during the interview.
