Hi I was wondering if anyone knew the starting or average salary of an RN in the DFW area?

... I graduated 10 years ago in Norman, Oklahoma (3hours from DFW) and my starting pay was 11.50/hour. Yes, you read it right. The 50 cents was because I had worked as an LPN my senior year of college.
Hello from another Okie grad! I started at 12.07 at Presby in 1994. I was already a nurse tech there, so I think that factored into my rate.
How time flies!

So is the job market decent for new grads in the DFW general area?

It is very easy to find a job as a new grad RN or LVN in the DFW area.
Thats what I like to hear!! I graduate next August and I want a job lined up YESTERDAY!
You're in Amarillo, correct? I don't know from personal experience, but I was informed by an Amarillo RN who frequently posts here, that the job market in the Panhandle is rather tough for nurses.
I think it depends on where you go. I tech at a psychiatric hospital and they are hurting for RNs as are some of the nursing homes. The hospitals however are offering sign on bonuses, but sort of take their sweet time responding to applications.

14 years ago (1993) as graduate nurse I started out at 11.75/hr, which was more than I had ever made, so I didn't complain.
Now 14 years later, have MSN and make 80,000/yr, but I am salaried, so I do not give OT or shift diff, etc...I work in PI dept.

That is how much I make as an LPN in Ohio. That is crazy. Looks like I will be taking a pay cut because I am moving to Texas in a couple of weeks.

Well as a mother of 2 little ones I will be very happy with 18.00++++ an hour. It beats the pants off of working for 9.50 with no benefits. I start school AUGUST 27th !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so excited, Dusty

I think we are forgetting about the potential for growth here. It isn't like the salaries are stagnant.......they are stagnant ONLY if you don't learn and grow and keep taking advantage of opportunities. I could EASILY be making 60-70K right now doing any number of things.Sure, there *are* jobs at places like Bell Helicopter for people with no degrees. But they are dead end jobs and very volatile. Layoffs happen at the whimsy of whomever has a stronghold in the Senate (Dems vs. Republicans). Jobs like that in manufacturing are disappearing very fast while our jobs and our job market only continues to expand.I just don't feed into the "poor us" we are so underpaid feelings for new grads.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU FOR SAYING THAT!!! Exactly what I was thinking reading this thread.
I'm an ADN-RN and I have been for about a year and a half. I am going back to school for my BSN, MSN, and CWOCN. I figure with all the education, I'll be marketable to many different opportunities. It's much easier to sit around and fuss about how little you're making, but it takes a lot of heart and perserverance to do something about it.

If you go with an agency, you can get $25-30/hour + tax advantage pay.
