Hi I was wondering if anyone knew the starting or average salary of an RN in the DFW area?

Specializes in Education, Administration, Magnet.

$19.50 Baylor, $20 Childrens M.C., $21 Plano M.C., $22 Medical City.

Those are the hourly wages I was given when I interviewed last month for a new grad internship.

Specializes in ICU, PICC Nurse, Nursing Supervisor.

these are horrible hourly wages for rns' in this area.. i thought it was much more than that...looks like ill be takin a pay cut when i become a rn.....

gmab...do new grads think they should just automatically be awarded a 32.00 rate ?

20.00 comes out to be a 40-45k per year. i think that is right in line with what a a lot of new grads coming out of college make per year.

Specializes in Peds Cardiology,Peds Neuro,Pedi ER,PICU, IV Jedi.

Have to agree with carachel here. You may have been an LVN for 20 years, but to a hospital that doesn't matter. It's your years of RN experience that count...:o

Nurses here start at 20 but can get up to an 11-12% raise after the first year. There's also the shift diff, which is 4.50/nights and 6.00/weekends here.

My hospital and others in the area pay you a lower wage until you're off orientation, then you're bumped up to a higher wage.

lol ok honey, no i'm not saying that nurse's should come out of school with a 32/hr rate... but since you mention it ..why not, nursing is hard! most lvn's in this area are paid a lot more than 19/20 hr , so one would expect that a rn would get paid more. i don't care if it comes out to 40k that ain't nothing ..when you look at what your doing and what you have to put up with...

plano medical center will give you credit for being an lvn. for every 3 years that you have worked as an lvn, they count it as 1 year as an rn. so the pay will be a lot higher for any lvns at that hospital.

Specializes in trauma ICU,TNCC, NRP, PALS, ACLS.

i agree 40,000 is nothing.. i was expecting alot higher pay for new grads. people with no higher education make 19 and 20 bucks an hour e.g oil rig workers, bell helicopter in arlington they start pple at 19/hr w no college edu. rn should get paid much much more than a crapy 19/hr.

I am an LVN with 1 year of experience who earns $19.06 hourly at a nursing home. I earned about $47,000 last year. I simply think it is a shame that I, the new LVN, can earn more money than many new RNs.

In addition, hospitals in other areas automatically start new RNs out at the $40.00 hourly pay rate, although these facilities tend to be located in higher cost-of-living states.
