Roll call...status call...

Let's try this....what kind of information should we be looking for? i am curious who/how many nurses we have around here, what state we are from, and whether we are working or not, what field of work our nurses are in, Something like a check-in...like this:

I'm Michelle, from Ohio. Sobriety date 4/17/2009. In Alternative program. Got my license back (with restrictions) November 2009 (lost my license the morning of the sobriety date) and currently not employed, but actively seeking.

Actually I am in talks with a possible job oppurtunity, in dialysis, should know by this week. What other information would you like to see listed in this check in? I think it might help others know, how long you looked for a job before you found one, how long it took for you to get your license back, what fields are recovery friendly, idk....maybe this is a silly idea. Let's see how it goes. xo Michelle

My name is Jaye. I live in Indiana. My sobriety date is April 17, 2007.

I have done farm and farmers market work since 2008. I just applied to have my license reinstated two weeks ago even though my suspension was only 6 months. I only now feel ready and sometimes the idea scares me to death.

Ultimately, I would like to become a nurse ultrasonographer but I'll take what I can get for now.

Specializes in ICU, PICU, School Nursing, Case Mgt.

I'm Susan, in Florida (Palm Beach County)

Sobriety date is January 7, 2009 (Thank you GOD)

I fortunately did not lose my license but I was on the OIG list and able to have myself removed.

I am in IPN-1 year down, 4 to go!

I didn't work for about 9 months--went through IOP, signed contract etc but through the grace of GOD I got a job one month after entering IPN.

I am working as a Case Manager for Insurance Co.

Good luck, everyone!

I am Michelle, Oklahoma. Sobriety date 6/28/2009. In the PEER program voluntarily. Did not lose or have restrictions on my license. But I have to do 1 year of supervised nursing as per the contract I have with peer. I have 10 months left if all goes well. Working in private physician/medical trial study office. I spend 24 hours a week as a lab tech. The other 16 hours as an RN. (I have to work min of 16 hours weekly as RN for peer) Pay is not NEAR what RNs make. but it's kind of a favor for a favor with my office. They get RN services without having to pay to bring in temp every now and then...I get my sup nursing requirement met!

Before that, I worked at Walmart, Sprint, and Denny's while looking for a place to hire me as a supervised nurse! Looked 8 months with no luck. Finally got courage to tell my office what I am going through and see if they could use RN services part time :)

Specializes in Mental Health, Short Stay.

My name is Glenn from Oregon. Sobriety date: Apr. 13, 2007. Self referred to treatment and BON with a 5 year monitoring program. License was always unencumbered. Fired from a 7 year RN position after reporting my actions with employer. Subsequently, unemployed for 2.5 years. First year developing a solid recovery program and the remaining looking for RN employment while working occasional construction jobs. Currently employed as outpatient psych RN for 8 months.

Good idea Michelle. It gives you an idea where folks are from and a "nutshell" where their career stands. Just remember, every state is different regardless of the particular circumstances. Potential employers are another matter.

beverly-from texas- in TPAPN. sobriety date 10-08-2009!! thank you, God! for saving me from myself! prior to that, left a job i had had for 18 years(but would have been fired if not)- voluntarily entered IOP & TPAPN, able to get rehired at the hosp. where i had worked, in outpatient dialysis. love the job & very grateful to have it!!

Specializes in MDS/ UR.

Megan from Minnesota- my addiction struggle is/was cigarettes.

I quit cold turkey as of 10/29/10 after 26 years of smoking.

I never thought of myself as an 'addict' but it became obvious with the cravings and the struggles to not smoke.

When I started adding up the financial cost alone I was staggered. Never mind the physical consequences and all the rest.

I hope it is all right I joined in.

The temptation is less but it still nips my heels everyday.

Specializes in LTC, Psych, Med/Surg.

I am Carol from Nebraska.

I am also a compulsive gambler, Gamble free since Dec 22, 2004. C & S from Dec 8, 2004.

I am in an unemployment crisis. Have completed over 4 years of 5 years of probation & can't find a job. My savings is almost gone & have no unemployment benefits.

Plus, I found out my number came up today for a urine drug screen. I don't take anything but they cost me $80 each.

I am not religious but I am asking for prayers. I have been really strong through this whole process but I am crying all the time now I am so afraid.

Thanks for reading,

P.S. I have hesitated to answer the roll call because I wanted to have good news to share about finding a job.

I feel of course it is okay that you joined in ....addiction is addiction. Your's was just legal and a little more socially acceptable.

Actually, mine was legal too, got scrips from my MD--actually my doctor was my pusher.. it just got out of hand!

Thanks to God...C & S since January of 2009!

Blessings to you all!

*Dear Catmom*

I know this sounds trite--but I have been there....totally broke, in debt up to my eyeballs...still am-even working-but I thank God all day long that I am Drug Free (and alcohol free-10+years on that one)

I know it's so, so hard to keep "stong" when your daily life is so difficult--but, when I finally really let GO, and put everything in His hands--I got my job. Within two weeks...

No kidding, It still blows me away.

I am praying for you--just keep trying--and maybe ask-really ask for a little help from the Big Guy upstairs!

Blessing and Serenity (my favorite word) to you,

PS-this is not ment to be a "Religious post"--everyone is intitled to his/her opinion and belief system---just sharing my experience-what worked for me-both in getting clean-staying clean--and getting my job.

Had to be Divine Intervention! No other explanation works.
