I'm still here...quietly lurking away in the corner ;P This is my 14th, and probably last year of school nursing :( We are moving to another state and the salaries in a tri-county area from our location are all TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS LESS :o I know it's not all about the money, but I do have bills ;P

He's private school so I'm sure he'll come waltzing in soon.

I think I remember him saying that he does not start back until after Labor Day.

Have plenty of Bud Light on hand in the fridge at home. Welcome!!

Check some other threads on here for how to start out as a new school nurse.

Or a REAL beer. Just sayin

Kids here started back 8/2... already up to 50+ kids a day. Last year was well over 80. Does anyone have any guideline ideas that can be given to teachers about sending kids to the nurses office. I have provided bandaids and they have sinks in their classes, however, I still get tons of visits for scraped that are barely visible. The list could go on about unnecessary visits. I get so many students in my office at a time, it can take me up to 30 minutes to get to them and they are missing out on valuable class time for silly things. Any suggestion would be great. I'd like to come up with guidelines I can run by the principal and give to teachers.

Hi Everyone! This will be my first year as a school nurse, transitioning over from the neonatal world. I was able to meet with the district nurse to open the clinic and get me all setup in the system, as well as doing our computer training. My official first day is the 24th, I'm excited and nervous! Looking forward to hanging around with you all!

Welcome! I am in my second year as a school nurse and I also came from NICU! Very different but the work life balance is nice and the schedule can't be beat!

Thank you, I am so happy to hear that!

I'm here!

This is my 3rd year as a school nurse, 20th year of being an RN. Time flies.

So, I started back August 14th. I work for a county office of education, so we have medically fragile kids, ED kids, alternative HS kids. We have pervasive staffing issues of classroom RN's and LVNs. Last year I had to sub as the classroom RN, so my "credentialed school nurse" work did not get done on those days. Administration laid off a school nurse, and THEN contracted out to give the remaining 2 of us MORE work and didn't tell us. The sites they contracted with are a MESS AND they are so freaking rural. It takes me 45 minutes to get to one of the sites from my office, and a lot of the sites are 20 minutes from one another. Missing care plans, no AEDs, expired Epi pens and diastat. But hey, all the administrators kept their jobs so.......

I am already on countdown to the end of the year and I am not sure I will come back for another year. I am just finishing up my credential. Blah.

I've been at my new job all summer with very few pangs for my health office until this week, seeing all the SN threads here and having my teacher pals send me photos of my empty office with crying emojis. Missing and thinking of you all, don't forget about me!!

PS I am getting married in like a month and I gotta say, wedding planning has become exponentially less stressful since I started making literally double what I was making at the school. Not that I am making a TON right now but it just speaks to how little I was making before!

This is the best forum on AN. You will learn so much and make great friends. Welcome!

Ohhhh......my first start of the school year as a school nurse (started last April) I came back July 27th and kids Aug 9th. All immunizations data input, took a lot of time, and down to only 5 students missing/incomplete :)

We have hearing/vision screening next week, a bit nervous about that as we have not had many volunteers this year......

So far loving this job, I live 6 minutes away so that is great! I used to commute 1.5 hours each way and worked in public health (women's health specifically)

I have no diabetics but a lot of EPI pen students with severe allergies and only a handful of daily meds, so far soooo good!!!!
