Roll Call - Introduce Yourselves, Texans!

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Go ahead, break the ice, and introduce oneself!

I guess I'll start. I'm originally from California, and have resided in Texas since late 2005. I've been an LVN since January 2006, and I currently work in the rehab section of a skilled nursing facility in Fort Worth. Since August 2006, I have earned 38 college credit hours worth of prerequisite classes to be applied toward one of several local LVN-to-RN bridge programs.

Specializes in Case management, Utilization Review.

I'll be living near Rice. I've sent resumes to Waxahachie, Navarro, and Ennis cause I'd like to stay fairly close to home.

Specializes in psych, ambulatory care, ER.

I live in Austin, Tx. I was an LVN for 4 yrs and have been a RN for 4 yrs. Went to school @ Austin Community College both times, currently working @ a psychiatric hospital and loving it.

Specializes in Emergency nursing.

Howdy!

Born and raised in Waco, TX; have been a nurse for almost 3 years. Received my ADN from McLennan Community College and BSN from Texas Tech University (Wreck em Tech!). ER is my passion; have worked in Level 1 trauma centers in Lubbock and Temple. I am currently living in Bryan/College Station and working as a college health nurse while living with my Aggie brothers. Am looking at working part time at the local ER as well; although I am liking the whole 8-5 M-F thing. :) :nurse:

Specializes in Onc/Hem, School/Community.

I have always been a Texan, I just didn't know it until I moved here!

I am married with two kids and moved to Sugar Land four years ago. I have lived in Florida, Arizona, and New Hampshire. I am currently a junior in a BSN program and plan on specializing in oncology. I really liked Arizona's weather and plan on moving to the western part of Texas some day.

Great post Commuter.

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

Geez, thanks! :thankya:
Specializes in L&D, GYN, Mother/Baby, Newborn Nursery.

I am a labor and delivery nurse from Stephenville Texas. I attended school in Waco at MCC like at least one other on this roll call. I am currently a travel RN doing a contract in sunny south Florida, but will be home soon. I have also done contracts in California, and having truly been coast to coast, I can honestly say our "Texas friendly" creed is sorely missed by this 5th generation Texan. Gimme a dirt county road and no cell-phone signal over this tourist traffic and smog any day!!!

Specializes in Executive, DON, CM, Utilization.

Good Morning Ya'll!!

I lived in Midland, Texas (West Texas) for 9+ years and returned to Richmond, Virginia to take care of a sick child for 7 months! Boy it did not take me long to realize I am a Texan, and will only leave when I must travel for corporate, just to return "home again!!"

I'm currently in Round Rock, north of Austin way and am entertaining going back home real soon; West Texas that is!!

I love Texas and am glad to meet others like myself who could not think of any other state putting a candle next to ours!!

Have a great day!

Karen G.

Specializes in Maternal newborn.

Hey guys, It's my turn now!!! I was born and raised in Baltimore Maryland. Joined the Navy after highschool and ended up in Lemoore California. Met a great guy and got married and before I knew it we had 5 kids ( all girls ). Graduated from Fresno state with baby #5 in tow. Worked as a med-surg nurse for 2 1/2 yrs in Hanford Ca before we moved to Burleson tx in dec 2007. Now I'm working on the mother/baby floor at Harris Methodist. Still trying to get used to the area. Everything is so different here. More fast paced in my opinion. But everything should work out ok

Are you liking the Fort Worth area so far?

I was actually in Lemoore last month, at the Tachi Casino with my parents. My mother and father live in Bakersfield, so I spent 10 days in the Central Valley visiting them. My parents' favorite pasttime is blowing their money at the casino.

Yes I am liking Fort worth so far. I love my job. I am actually busier on the mom/baby floor than I was in med-surg. The nurses have been welcoming and are happy to see me there. I've only been to the casino a few times. It was too smokey for my husband and I. There are some things I wished I would have done before the move, such as not buying an expensive house and researching the rn opportunites more thoroughly. Then on the other hand I love where I work and for the first time I enjoy going to work.

Hey Y'all ( lol. a little Paula Dean for ya ),

Houston born, Houston raised. I've been in Atlanta, Georgia for over a year now and I MISS TEXAS!!!. I never knew I was REALLY a Texan until I moved. lol . I'm currently a pre-nursing student. Hopefully, I'll graduate from HBU and work in L&D or Recovery Room. ( or a Nurse Practioner )

Hello Everyone!

Born and raised in Texas. I'm 38, married with 1 beautiful dtr. I very excited as next year I will be attending Nursing School (I hope). I'm currently finishing my Associates degree, then I will have to retake A&P I and II due to the fact mine are soooooo old. My dtr will graduate HS in May and then we are relocating to another city in Texas for me to go to nursing school! :yeah: Have already had a transcript review and spoken to the school - one of a few that don't have a waiting list and it looks like I should have no problem getting in. Will be working on my BSN! FINALLY this has been a long time coming!:specs:
