Roll Call - Introduce Yourselves, Texans!

Published

Go ahead, break the ice, and introduce oneself!

I guess I'll start. I'm originally from California, and have resided in Texas since late 2005. I've been an LVN since January 2006, and I currently work in the rehab section of a skilled nursing facility in Fort Worth. Since August 2006, I have earned 38 college credit hours worth of prerequisite classes to be applied toward one of several local LVN-to-RN bridge programs.

I'm Ashley... Texas is where my Heart is. I am living in Oklahoma right now, but my hubby and I plan to move back in a couple of years. I was raised in Lumberton Texas (a few miles outside of Beaumont), and my hubby is from Rosenberg (burb of Houston)....... I am about to embark on my nursing school, hopefully... and I am super nervous

Specializes in none, also like to change that!.

I'm Sa. I live in Houston. I'm originally from Germany. I'm just starting out in finding the 'right' information on how to get into nursing. I'm contemplating whether it's best to start of with CNA and work myself up or go right into it... . My husband actually found me this site and so far I have learned so much stuff that I didn't find researching in the last month on my own. So thank you! Hopefully soon, I can free myself from the corporate world and do something worth while! It's exciting, as well as nerve wrecking. I hope I'll do okay!

Specializes in Operating Room.

Some do start out as CNA's, but I think it's safe to say, most do not. After the first semester, many do get extern jobs at the hospitals that help them get extra experience.

Good luck to you.

Specializes in CDI Supervisor; Formerly NICU.

Hi folks. Native Texan here, originally from East Texas, near Tyler (Jacksonville, specifically). Now living in the Rio Grande Valley, about to start my 3rd of 4 semesters in an ADN program. Graduate May '09 (and can't wait).

Married to an ER RN (now working as a trauma coordinator, but she misses the ER). It was her taking a job that brought us here to the armpit of the state. Can't wait to move out of this furnace, either back to rural East Texas, or perhaps Houston (so I can get Astros season tickets :) ).

Have 2 beautiful granddaughters who have changed my life and mellowed me waaaaaaaaaay out. Spent about 15 years as a correctional officer for the state of Texas prison system, so I needed mellowing. :)

Looking to get into NICU or PICU or even nursery (if I can). Want to go where most men won't go. The grandbaby experience, plus going through my wife's 4 year old niece having a heart transplant has really led me to want to work in NICU/PICU. We'll see how that turns out. Start peds/ob rotation on Aug 25.

Good luck to you all, and GO ASTROS.

Hi everyone.

I'm a military brat so I have lived in a lot of places throughout my life. Starting with Kodiak Alaska, Monterey Cali, Juneau Ak, Topeka Kansas, Charlotte N.C, than Reno Nevada. Now I live in NRH, TX and work at my local HCA hospital night shift as a Patient care tech. I have worked at this hospital for about a year and a half. I moved to Texas from Nevada about 2 years ago. I started as a CNA 8 years ago and started working in hospice in Topeka Kansas. I currently work in the PCU. I start nursing school at TCC this Fall! I am so excited. I have a 4(soon to be 5)year old daughter that will start kindergarten the same day I start nursing school. I tell all my co-workers about how helpful this website is! I'm lovin it. Thank you all!
