I have a similar story, I had a nurse-want-2-be tell me that she was a nurse. Now what made me think that she was lying was b cuz of 2 things she said 2 me. the 1st was that if patients give her trouble, she has them restrained. Now I do no, the only way 2 have someone restrained is if they are a threat 2 themselves or others. Then the 2nd thing was she told me the secrete to taking nursing school exams. She said the answers are always b or c, now that was strange b cuz 1 of my exams most of the answers was a or d. Then I did some investigating (CSI) and found out that she was a PCA or patient care assistant. When I confronted her she couldn't say a word. I hate when people try 2 b something they are not.

My first job out of LPN school, I worked at an Urgent Care who hired a new grad Surg. Tech who had some lab experience, to run the lab (u/a's, prep cultures to send out, draw blood, ect.) I caught her serveral times telling patients medically false information followed up by telling them she was a Scrub Nurse. I told her that she didn't have a nursing license and its pretty much illegal to tell pt. that you are a nurse when you really arn't. She gets all huffy with me and tells me "well I can give meds in the OR" well really then, go to the OR and give them cause you know what, you ain't a nurse sweets and you run the LAB and don't have keys to the med room, I do...cause I took a year of school and 9 months of freakin' pharmacology to pass meds in the state of Ohio!

She eventually got fired over it.

So, is the chick an RN, or is she not?

IMHO,

When I was in school, I had lots of people who knew I was a nursing student, and would consider me a nurse, ask me medical questions, etc. I ALWAYS corrected them. I said I am a nursing student, I have no real experience and I am not a nurse. I worked for a few semesters as a nursing assistant, and patients would call me "Nurse" and I always corrected them too. I graduated last year and now I am a nurse and am proud of it. I hate when I hear about anyone who is not honest about what they do.

Saying you are a nurse (whether it's in a professional health care setting or out in a bar) when you are not is illegal and is a criminal offense.

I worked too hard for the right to my title as an RN to have it demeaned by liars who want to feel like they are someone they are not!

There is no reason why someone should not be proud to be a CNA. You worked hard for that certificate, you work harder at your job than most medical professionals, you are the eyes and ears of the nurse and thus the Dr. whom she/he will notify if there is anything new (could not have done so w/o YOU!). You get decent pay and benefits, your residents/patients love you. Yes there are tough parts to the job but you also get some perks that the store clerk or librarian or even the busy nurse does not get - like hugs, like appreciation, like trust... these patients rely on you for their safety and their well being. I think you should have a "great big tricked-out name pin" for being a CNA and there is NOTHING to be ashamed of.

Although, I think even the higher-than-minimum pay you get should be higher. You have a HUGE responsibility!

I'm in my 30's & I'm not ashamed to say that I am a tech or nursing student. When I left my customer service job 2 years ago to get this ball rolling, I had people (supervisors & managers) ask me 'will you get paid?' 'is that similar to a candy striper?' etc. They didn't understand it, they assumed a lot. I even got wind that a manager which I didn't get along with too well had said that he didn't think I'd get too far. :(

I also work with some pct's who have no desire to persue nursing, some have been doing it so long that they make decent money doing it & have a rountine (their words not mine), don't want the responsibility, OR they are considering other areas in the medical field. But at the same time these same techs that are excited for me, they'll offer encouragement or ask how things are going...& don't appear to be 'threatened'. I also don't act like an orifice & think that in some way that I am better than they are.

wow, after reading all the posts here, i really really want to know if she is or not!

anyhow, i have always been proud to say that i'm a nursing student. whether they reply with negative or positive remarks, i know deep in my heart and soul that i will eventually finish school and save lives :nuke:

Still have no idea why someone would "pretend" to be an RN. It's not a glamorous job. When I think of things to pretend to be, doctors, lawyers, successful business owners come into mind.

sorry everyone no update/....my sister in law could not find out last name...maybe soon

What an amazing letdown this story turned out to be. :(
