RN to BSN

O.K. so I started my ADN to BSN course today. Actually it starts officially Monday, but there's a module to do before then.

All I can say is WOW! I'm overwhelmed by the amount of work they are expecting full time workers to do. Online chat sessions where we have to be ready with answers to questions, a quiz a week, reading 2 to 5 chapters a week, 500 page papers every week, responding to bulletin board postings (one of which has to be 200 words or more), a power point presentation, and one very large paper, on and on and on. Plus the last couple of weeks my the chemistry class overlaps.

I'm beginning to wonder what I got myself into! Wondering if it will be worth it and how working full time I'm going to do it. My life as I know it is over.

But I have to break it down to one thing at a time and just go with the flow and see how it goes. No one is holding a gun to my head making me do it. It's just the initial shock is a little overwhelming.

Kudos to everyone who is doing it or has done it!

O.K. now that's off my chest I feel better. LOL

Wow indeed Tweety. I'm in awe of what you are going to accomplish.

Very exciting too. I'm a tad bit jealous.

You can do it.

OMG, yes, I think I would be overwhelmed too. It's more than likely that you will settle in once you find your groove.

Best of wishes to you, I am sure you will do fine. Don't forget we are here to cheer you on ;)

You can do it!! One session at a time...

Aren't you excited to be starting??

SJ

Tweety,

I feel the same way, I just looked at my requirements for my online courses. They sound similar. I am also in shock. But I am confident that WE can do this. My email is posted that way we can give each other support if we need it.

Good Luck

Angie

Hi Tweety........... just wanted to let you know that Im in your same boat. My last semester doesnt start until Jan 10, but the last 2 semesters have been everything that you mentioned, and in some classes, then some.

You can do it.........if you have the "want" to do it, you can do it........ Last semester I took 16hrs, work full time, and have 2 teenagers, and wound up with a 3.8 for the semester

You can do it!!!!!!!!!

Actually, I am exciting to finally be getting it underway. I've been so wishy washy about going back to school for many years, it's good to finally actually be in a program, rather than just taking co-reqs.

Thanks Angie! I'll need it. While I've been a student most of my adult life, it's been a good 7 years since I've last taken a course. And I've never taken an accelerated course before. But I survived my ADN, I certainly can do this....the question being will I stay motivated? Opps...gotta keep it present, and don't project.

Thanks Steph. My AND program was all about preparing for NCLEX, so all our tests were like NCLEX, no papers. This program is all about the papers. gulp......

Thanks for the support and confidence. :)

Now, off to study. Gotta figure out how to do that with a dog in my lap licking my legs. :)

Tweety, you can do it! You have to get yourself in a certain mode and stay there until you're done. That's why you always see independent students post that one has to be very self-motivated to do this kind of program. The first course will always be the scariest. After that it'll get better, I promise. I'm really excited for you- you'll do just fine I'm sure.

At least you know you have all of us for support!

When you get that overwhelmed feeling, try to remember that if it were really easy and you didn't have to do much work you might be complaining that you weren't getting your money's worth. You might be saying that the BSN was meaningless because it didn't teach you anything you didn't already know ... that people with BSN's hadn't done anything that you didn't have to do in your ADN program ... that there is no difference between an ADN and BSN education, etc. etc. etc.

Take comfort in knowing that your BSN will represent a high level of academic accomplishment and not just be a rubber stamp on the fact that you paid your money for a meaningless piece of paper.

As far as writing papers go ... when you take a multiple choice test, you are just being asked to recognize the right answer if you see it. When you right a paper, you are being asked to come up with the ideas yourself and make a logical argument to present those ideas in a way that will others will accept. Don't hesitate to bounce those paper ideas off of us.

We're your friends. We'll help.
