RN to BSN

O.K. so I started my ADN to BSN course today. Actually it starts officially Monday, but there's a module to do before then.

All I can say is WOW! I'm overwhelmed by the amount of work they are expecting full time workers to do. Online chat sessions where we have to be ready with answers to questions, a quiz a week, reading 2 to 5 chapters a week, 500 page papers every week, responding to bulletin board postings (one of which has to be 200 words or more), a power point presentation, and one very large paper, on and on and on. Plus the last couple of weeks my the chemistry class overlaps. :eek: :eek: :eek:

I'm beginning to wonder what I got myself into! Wondering if it will be worth it and how working full time I'm going to do it. My life as I know it is over.

But I have to break it down to one thing at a time and just go with the flow and see how it goes. No one is holding a gun to my head making me do it. It's just the initial shock is a little overwhelming.

Kudos to everyone who is doing it or has done it!

O.K. now that's off my chest I feel better. LOL

Just needed to brag a bit.

One week out of 7.5 done! It's been fun. Just finished my 2nd paper and on to more fun. Class of 2007 here I come. LOL

Hi! I am looking at a couple rn to bsn schools, and just wondering what school you are doing it with? Why did you pick that school? Some pros and cons. I want to get some research done on these schools before I pick one. Right now I am looking at University of Wyoming and Florida Hospital College. What do think about these schools?

I feel the same way, I just looked at my requirements for my online courses. They sound similar. I am also in shock. But I am confident that WE can do this. My email is posted that way we can give each other support if we need it.

I'm doing Florida Hospital College. I was going locally at the online program at St. Petersburg College, but it wasn't totally online, it had some clinical component and traveling. I choose FHC because it was 100% online with no clinical component. They might ask you to do some things at work, like attend meetings or interview a supervisor, or follow a manager around for a shift, but you can do it where you work. That was primarily why I chose that program. The price was also right. While definately way more expensive than SPC, it was half the price of other schools like University of Phoenix.

The other deciding factor is that it is NLN approved.

There are scheduled chat times, which is one thing I don't like. I'm doing online so I can make up my own schedule. But it's only one hour a week.

Be aware that Florida Hospital College is a Christian college if that makes a difference. They pray before each chat session, and before each recorded lecture and Chrisitian principles as it applies to nursing is discussed. But that's just a small component, as I said it's NLN approved and all about nursing.

Thanks. The bulletin board turned out to the be least of my worries. Can't believe I was actually worried about responding to people's posts in a bulletin board. I'm already an expert at that.

Thank you for your reply. I also like the fact that there is no clinical due to my husband and I being stationed overseas in Japan. The price is a lot cheaper than others, too. My enrollment advisor has really been great with keeping me informed. I'm leaning toward this college rather than University of Wyoming. UofW is cheaper, but they require a clinical in the last semester.

Any one with additional comments?

Congrats Tweety on your venture with RN-BSN! I am finishing up my last prerequisite (statistics) this spring semester before starting the RN-BSN program at Texas Tech. Good luck to you and I look forward to hearing from you and how your experience goes.

Tweety, proud of you too. You can do it, despite the waves of overwhelm that come and go with such an endeavor. Stay focused, stay organized, take care of yourself during the process. Eating right, sleeping right, and getting exercise to work out the tension is necessary. I know you go to the gym and walk the dogs. Good! I wish you the best in your studies, my friend.

Yippee! I am sure you will do great!

I just started my 3rd (out of 4) qtr... I am going full-time, and working full-time nights, it has been rough at times but I always seem to make it through -pulling a 3.94 to boot! If this barely-made-it-out-of-HS-college-dropout-x2 can do it then you can too!

One thing I found really helpful is a computer program that works with MS Word that does all the APA formatting for you - it is WONDERFUL!!!!

Totally worth the $24.00. I would be happy to pass the info along if anyone wants to PM me...

How's it going, 3rd shift? I plan to start the RN to BSN online program at FHC this summer, so I'll be interested to hear how this semester goes for you.
