A friend and I split the cost and bought it so it was only $20 each. I haven't read through the whole thing yet but he does have some good tips on how to choose the right answer when you have no clue. The rest is a review and questions and I plan on doing those next week. I take NCLEX on the 17th of June and I am going to spend the next 2 wks studying.

It depends where you go, in Tampa area you can still get a nice home under $200k. (I bought a 3/2 for $142k). Lakeland Regional offers a weekender program and the cost of living there is still pretty low.

There are no other Tampa hospitals in the program, there are 5 or 6 throughout the state. I was/am hoping to get a job with TGH but I did already get an offer from St. Joseph's. They don't have the repayment program but they are an excellent facility.

I am still a student (graduating this May) but I have done numerous clinicals at TGH and will be doing my leadership there as well. It is a teaching hospital so there are constantly students there so be expected to do some teaching. Being the county hospital there are alot of spanish speaking patients so if you are bilingual that would be a plus. I have found the staff there to be very receptive to us students and I plan on working either there or at St. Joseph's after graduation. Starting pay for gn's is $19.50. They are part of the nursing student loan forgiveness network of hospitals and they offer tuition reimbursement if you want to continue schooling. Hope this helps!

I think about 75% of our class worked all through school (we graduate in may). After your first semester, you are qualified to work at a hospital as a patient care technician or nurse tech and the hours are very variable. If you are fortunate to have a VA hospital near you - their policy for pct's that are in nursing school is that you have no schedule. You come in whenever you want and leave whenever you want, you don't even have to tell them in advance. I worked at the SICU at my local VA for about 4 months before I moved further away and resigned. It was great, I could come in for an hour if I felt like it. You also get shift diffs for nights and weekends (but no benes). Good luck!

I don't know if So Fla is different than Tampa but I sent in the form requesting deferrment due to being in nursing school and it was granted. My teacher told me that if they would not defer me - I would not be penalized as jury duty was my duty as a citizen.

OK, this is not really a ghost storey but more of a permonition: When I was about 6 and living in New Jersey, I had a dream that I was a nurse taking care of a little boy who was covered in bandaids only he was sitting in a fountain in front of a hospital. Now I am not one of those people who always wanted to be a nurse and I didn't think about this dream for years. Over 20 years later, driving through Deland, Florida - I saw THE EXACT hospital and fountain that had been in the dream. Again, I haven't thought of this until reading these posts and realized that here I am becoming a nurse 10 years later in Florida - only about 1 1/2 hours from that hospital! Hmmmmm......
