In preparation for getting a BSN, I am trying to gather information regarding online BSN programs. if you have links to what you feel is an affordable, online, no residency requirement program, please post 'em here.
One program that I came across was at Thomas Edison State College. does anyone have any information regarding their program? I was hoping to find someone that has first hand (or second hand ? ) experience with the TESC RN to BSN program as it seems to be an affordable option, which, of course, is always a bonus. from reading the catalog on their site it appears that you can use some of the EC exams to satisfy the upper-level nursing courses.
The TESC program looks pretty decent but I am looking for some feedback to any online rn to BSN program. if anyone has links to what they feel is an affordable online rn/bsn program please post the link here.
just a heads up that there is a new nursing school in tampa. classes are starting oct. 2 and they just started promoting. the guy running the campus used to be head of the entire florida board of nursing (dan coble). former nurse, professor and worked at tampa general. they offer an rn to bsn program online as well and understand they are going to be launching a master's degree in nursing online soon as well.
Although I agree that some expensive private online programs like UofP and others may be somewhat less competitive, my managers husband was rejected from Univ. of TX RN to BSN program because of his "C" grades in ADN school.
Right now he's sitting in community college repeating courses trying to bring up his GPA to apply again in the fall.
I know others who didn't make the cut either.
If he were willing to pay outrageous tuition, he might have been accepted at a private school.

The community college here that added an RN to BSN compoenent is still begging for students and doesn't seem to be that particular, particularly if you passed their ADN program and go right into the RN to BSN part. I think it's probably because they are only about 5 years into it. Maybe as they become more established and have more students and with the faculty shortage they will be more competetive. They are very cheap to locals.

I realize you weren't responding to me, but I was the one that originally posted that admission to UW's RN-to-BSN was entirely noncompetitive (I was responding to a particular poster who had just applied to the school). The info is entirely accurate for that school (which is neither private nor expensive). In my experience, competitive admissions for RN-to-BSN programs is the exception rather than the rule.

My partner (as he can't be my husband for legal reasons in Texas) is a CNA and has since decided not to pursue a nursing degree.
I can't decide whether I'm disappointed or thrilled about it.

You probably should be thrilled, unless he plans on staying a CNA forever, then why not encourage him to further his degree. Why should you be the only one suffering through school???
I supported my partner through Masters degree and it's his turn now. But he secretly is enjoying my torture. I can tell.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't understand why he's repeating the courses just to get into U of Texas. There are just too many other schools to choose from. That will be time consuming and expensive.

Good point. I'm unclear about that as well.
I guess if it were me, I'd be looking at other less competitive schools as well before I'd be going through that much trouble to get into one particular univeristy.
I'm in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, and I'm trying to figure out where to go for my BSN. I really like the idea of an online school, but could use some more information.
Have you heard of any problems like people not getting hired with BSN degrees from online programs at accredited schools? I know in the early days of UoP, it wasn't really respected. Do companies look at these online degrees the same as a degree from a B&M school?
Of the online programs, right now I'm looking at UW and the one Tweety is going to. Cheap is good. Another consideration is that I do not have to take Chemistry in my 2 year program. Does anyone know of a 4 year that doesn't require it?
Ah nuts. I procrastinated and when I finally went to register for pharm and patho at U of WY they were full. Is anyone taking these this summer and want to tell me which texts you are using and maybe send me your syllabus? I'll do the self-study anyway because I wanted to learn this info before I start 2nd year at my ADN program. Lesson learned! No procrastination.
I am still trying to figure out which school to attend. I want the convience of online though, I like study groups. I do not like group projects. How is your schooling going for you so far? Would you reccommend this program or is it too soon to tell? I live in Ca BTW.
