Rituals before and after taking an exam...

Nursing Students Student Assist

Many of you have either finished taking finals or about to be done with finals. :yeah: I am curious to know what kind of rituals students do before or after an exam. Listen to music? Watch a movie the night before? Wake up an hr before th exam and cram more information in? Go for a manicure after the exam? Pull an all nighter? Mediate/Pray? Eat certain things? What do you do before and/or after an exam?

Personally, I go for a light run before my exam, to get the blood flowing in my body. It has helped my concentration and grades. When I am waiting around for the professor, I usually listen to music (FOO FIGHTERS, YEAA!) I hate hearing my classmates test each other and then argue about certain things, it just heightens my anxiety!

My ritual bfore an exam is to usually relax and hour or 2 before the exam. Basically sit and stare at the wall sort of stuff. Then after the exam, I run home and play games on my computer and crush those noobs. I am being 100% honest btw.

My best friend in nursing school and I always meet 3 hours before the exam. We have breakfast and get our NCLEX book out and just do practice questions on the topic. Our teachers always pray right before the exam, and I also say my own little prayer. Then, I give myself a pep talk--remind myself how much I have studied, how much I know. After the exam me and a couple of the other girls always go to Panera for lunch!! Has worked for me! I am starting my last semester in a little over 2 weeks!!

One of my nursing instructors would have us do like stretching exercises before our last exam. and we said a prayer too. it was like church.. in class lol

I like taking my iPod Touch out in the hallway while waiting for the rest of the class. I have a game called GeoDefense and I love killing some bad guys and beating some levels in there. It really makes the stress melt away!

I always wear the same blue scrub pants to take an exam in. Has worked so far. ;)

I try to get enough sleep the night before, then wake up pretty early the morning of, study for a couple hours, & eat a healthy breakfast (lots of fruit) & after the test I come home & zone out with TV...lol.

Specializes in I have done in home care once before.

The way i do it, I do an allnighter. Then I take the test, and after, I celebrate myself with some good partying: a 2 liter bottle of root beer and Top 40 playing on my radio. YEAH!!!!!!!!

I go kayaking the morning of the test, then I meet with a few classmates and we do NCLEX questions for a couple hours. It works .

I cram, I always feel like I forgot to look at something so I am constantly chasing my tail up until the minute of the test. Another thing I do is chew gum during the test. I saw on tv where it is susposed to improve test scores. I have been doing it for so long now I almost have a panic attack if I cant find gum, so far I have always found a piece. I even have everyone around me chewing gum on test day now.LOL!!!

I try to get a decent amount of sleep the night before...then the morning/day of the exam, I always review a little before taking it...I'll also get up earlier to grab some Starbucks coffee :) I eat a good breakfast and also eat some protein right before taking the exam (such as a spoonful of peanut butter or a handful of nuts or something) - one of my instructors always recommended doing that, and I think it helps. Afterwards I usually go grab something to eat because I'm usually starving from using up so much glucose in my brain lol
