I'm in the OR, so people who work in other units at my facility may think differently.

1. Yes- utilize a tube system
2. Minimal concerns when it is down for maintenance or issues, I have the benefit of being close to the staff that maintains the tube system. I know more of the tube systems ins & outs. I know tubes are tracked in real time. I know there is a log of what station & time stamp of a tube leaving & reaching a destination. I also understand WHY the tube station goes down. Many times staff error; tubes not latched properly either by mistake or being over filled & can't properly latch.
3. 5- very often
4. 3. - if tube system is down it takes precious time to run labels or medications. Procedures need to stay on track, staff carries the addition burden. We group as many as we can to minimize disruption
