Have any of you EVER had dr. orders to give Ritalin 3 times a day at school? To be exact--- before breakfast and lunch (7:45 and 11:45) and at 2:30? I am still shaking my head on this one. :sarcastic: Just to explain a little further-- the 2:30 dose is at motherdearests' request so the kids aren't sooooo wild and crazy when they get home!!! pullleeeeez

Oh believe me. I am never in favor of letting the parents off the hook / not holding them accountable to be the parents and give a.m. dose...AT HOME. This is one of those situations, that for the kids education, its just better to give the a.m. meds here at school. Already been down that LOnnnng road with this family.

so she wants you to administer medications 25 minutes before school starts?? When do you get there? Is there a piece that would justify this like a long bus ride or something along those lines? I know that i'd raise cain about giving meds before the school bell even begins. Then again at lunch then LESS than three hours later before the day ends. Does the parent know that there are XR meds?

Yes- to make sure the meds are good and working before the school day starts.

The kids get here at about 7:45- they ride the bus 2 blocks to get here.

It is a big ******* mess. It all unfolded last week when I wasn't here . Now, I am trying to sort it all out. Called mom twice no answer. I am trying to give her the opportunity to call the dr to request the note. The last time I called the dr to clarify medication issues....she blasted me on FB.

Heck- the parent know about XR meds? I doubt it. Not even sure the dr. does...apparently not...given this episode. This same dr. ordered Mt. Dew and a snack (which was usually chips, provided by the parent.) to treat ADHD on another student. No. I. Am. Not. Making. This. Up.

Oh Good Grief!

I would check the daily max mg strength per age/weight as well. Don't want to overdose the sweet child. Doctor and Mother of the year.

I gave up waiting on mom to call. I called the Dr. office. Dr. not there this afternoon. Nurse is also confused by how it was written in the notes. She finally figured out just to fax me the medication list. Annnnnd, I did slip in there some food for thought about the Dr. possibly considering an XR. Not that is will do any good. But, I did try. And, at the end of the day, that is ALL we can do.

Thank you so much for you all being there on this one. Not sure I would have kept from pulling my hair out. (There is way more to the story about the bottles mom sent, some with current dates, one that is not....ooooh, it just keeps going.) It was too complicated to type it all out, I would have probably damaged this key board in the process.

I must apologize for my outbursts in this post. That is outside my character. So, hope everyone has a good evening.

I read through your posts again and still don't see anything I'd consider an "outburst" ;) I could totally put you to shame!

Yours sounds like a crazy job, and I've learned a lot from you and other SNs. I can certainly see why you'd need to vent, and it seems like you have a lot of supportive colleagues here. ((hugs)) and maybe this

Looks like you broke your own rule right in the same post you stated the rule...
