I am against religious exemptions.

I give all deeply held beliefs equal credibility.   My belief system may be informed by organized religion, but it is not defined by organized religion.  And I do not believe an employer is capable of determining which beliefs are valid.

Millions in this country believe the earth is 5,000 years old, and that Eve came from one of Adam's ribs.  That is as scientifically grounded as Q-annon's BS.  Or the belief in Ivermectin.  Or my beliefs.  Beliefs, in my mind, are all equal, and unrelated to pandemic management.

I like this approach:

I have a former RN coworker who claimed a religious exemption, plus she had "natural immunity" so didn't think she needed a shot. And she stated she had floated to the "COVID unit" and it wasn't that bad. I don't think she was in ICU. She posted a lengthy diatribe about how she and her family were victims of government overreach, after she resigned. I doubt she would decline monoclonal antibodies.

There is an expression- "There are no atheists in foxholes".  Belief systems can get a bit more flexy when there are real consequences.

Yes.  Nurses should be biased, and understand that not all information is equal value.
For example- when it comes to management of respiratory viruses, my bias is toward pulmonologists, despite the fact that there is a group of chiropractors contradicting them.

Wow that Conway health paper is so passive aggressive especially parts like  your "sincerely held beliefs". I can't believe a document that comes across so passive aggressive was sent into circulation. My guess is that it was written by one occupational health nurse and released rather than a large department where more then one person would be reviewing it.

As for the religious exemption yea lets call a spade a spade, plenty of people are just claiming it because it's a loophole. Although I'm sure for a small percent of people it's actually due to their religion.

However, this isn't new to vaccines, even schools allow religious exemptions for common childhood vaccines. I see your point in the sense of why not just have an option for "personal objections" if you can't even validate their religious claim but as right now that's not really an option anywhere, at least not that I'm aware of.

In California all school age children must be fully vaccine against all the vaccine preventative/mitigating illnesses to attend public school (There are not exemptions even religious belief) and many private school are following suit.

No vaccine means you are home schooling.
