1. I'm Baptist and I'm a Christian.

2. It hasn't affected it negatively, only positively!!!

3. No.

4. Extremely important, I try to practice everyday!!! :loveya:

1. I classify my religion as Living because before I came back to live for GOD I was not living.

2.It has only effected my work in a positive way prayer has gotten me through alot of situations I couldn't of done on my on.

3.Yes because I believe that Saturday is the sabbeth and of people don't.

4.It is very important to me it is everything. Yes I practice it regularly

I'm a nursing student currently working as a CNA in a Long Term Care facility Transitional Care Unit, but I'll answer your questions.

"1. What do you classify your religion as?"

None. I am a secular humanist, others like to call me atheist.

"2. has it ever effected your work?"

No. Every once in a while, Christian co-workers inappropriately proselytize or share their religious beliefs with patients, but nothing dramatic. For example: I have heard a Physical Therapist say to amputees who are having trouble dealing with their injuries and recovery, "God has a plan for you, you have to figure out what it is and it will explain why this happened" or similar nonsense.

I notice people from other faiths don't do this quite as much and I doubt it would be tolerated if someone repeated made similar statements about plans made by Vishnu, Zeus, or Baal.

"3. does tension ever come up about religion?"

Not really. Patients religious views are respected when they bring them up in my experience.

"4. how important is your religion to you? do you practice it regularly?"

My belief is that the more we help each other become better people, the better off we all are as a species. I suppose I practice that regularly, with varying results.

1. What do you classify your religion as? I'm Pagan

2. has it ever effected your work? Not really in a sense of how I do my job, but I do think that if people do have religious beliefs, then those beliefs tend to come across in how people perceive life, which would include how they conduct themselves professionally. That doesn't mean that people who have no belief or who have different beliefs are better or worse...it just means for me that your beliefs will affect your view of the world.

3. does tension ever come up about religion? Not anymore because I keep that to myself. Some people still see 'Pagan' and think 'Satan' or whatever, and that's not a discussion I'd like to have with my co-workers. When I was in my 20s I felt like I had something to prove to everybody. Now I'm in my 30s and I don't care what anybody else's beliefs are, and I don't care if they agree with mine or not. LOL

4. how important is your religion to you? do you practice it regularly? I don't practice; rather, I try to live it in my daily activities...my daily life doesn't revolve around my beliefs completely but I do try to live my life in such a way that my life reflects my beliefs and vice versa.

1. Reform Judaism

2. Yes, Yes, Yes I have had patients whe were anti-Semetic and made derogatory comments about Jews I have also had difficulty occassionally getting time off for my major holidays.

3.Yes Yes Yes I do not appreciate prosletizing from others. Whether it's from my 'peers' or the patients, makes no difference. I have had peers give me a hard time about not celebrating Christmas, but they sure didn't mind when I offered to work Easter, Christmas eve or day.

4. Very important, and yes, I do practice it as I want and need to.

PLEASE RESPOND! MY GRADE DEPENDS ON IT!!!

1. Catholic

2. No. I don't bring it up. My impression is that no one is interested.

3. Refer to #2 and I am very accepting of different views, so if someone wants to talk about something from their perspective, I don't react.

4. I don't go to church or anything of that nature. The second part of that question is pretty loaded actually. I guess it depends on what you consider "practicing" religion. I practice it in that I try to let my actions/words reflect that I am a good Catholic. Some would say though that since I don't attend church, I am not a practicing Catholic.

Only time I can see my religion coming into play is in the matter of life/death issues. I don't preach to people about abortion, but I don't work on a unit where that comes into play. With regards to life/death issues, nursing has it's own philosophy on that. We are to support the pt in their decision making process........not push them one way or the other. Thats how I handle it.

1. Christian

2. My faith affects everything I do...it is my perspective on life.

3. Tension over religion and faith are not uncommon...not because of my belief system but because of the nature of my job...people are beginning to examine their own faith and beliefs as they consider their mortality.

4. My faith is important to me, I live it daily.

PLEASE RESPOND! MY GRADE DEPENDS ON IT!!!

1. I was raised catholic, but I don't claim organized religion. I believe in God, just not in churches.

2. Yes it has effected my work, not negatively. I work at a religious hospital, so most of the time our clients/long term are very religious and like to have bible readings and a priest or nun around.

3. It has come up but not with me, mainly co-workers who are either a different religion or not religious. One of the DON's is very religious and likes to talk about her beliefs as often as possible, not caring about what religion others are. She has been called on it before and states that if they don't want to hear it they shouldn't have started working at a Catholic hospital.

4. Like I said I don't believe in organized religion mainly because of the hypocritical acts that go on from the people attending church that step out of those doors and believe it no longer applies unless they are trying to impress someone. So practice in that since is no, however I read the bible regularly, and keep my relationship with my God open and honest. All that matters is that I believe what I believe and live my life trying to help others before personal gain.

Hope it helps.
