Recommendations for online FNP-30k range

Published

Hi everyone- I hope anyone here can PLEASE give me some recommendations for some online FNP programs???

I am currently enrolled in a B/M program and it is EXTREMELY challenging. I am required to have a very specific GPA in each class to progress to the next semester, and I'm not sure if I will make it this semester. Sadly, I am 2 years into a 3 yr program but may find myself out of the program. I also have recently found out that several students have switched out of the FNP option in the past several years due to this grading system. It is a fairly new thing and many really GREAT nurses are finding themselves below the requirements.

I am trying to contemplate my options and there are few. I could transfer into the MSN Educator or Administrator options but don't have a whole lot of job prospects in my area of the world for those roles- but still an option. There would also be the idea of doing this THEN doing the post-grad FNP certificate.

I could also transfer schools and I know of several nurses that I work with in my huge corporation who are doing online programs. I am unsure if there are any FNP programs that are wholly online, and more importantly, would accept transfer credits from my current program. Lastly, I don't want to spend more than 30K more than I already have to get this done...

having said all of this, does anybody have any recommendations for online programs? I am FNP right now and would stay that direction due to broad job options in my rural area of the world.

thanks for insight!!!!!

Let me clarify, the concern is not necessarily the amount of clinical hours as it is being able to complete that number of hours within 12 months in addition to the assignments, exams, working, and family. I am all for hands on experience, I feel that is the best way to learn especially in this line of work. I am just trying to gauge how manageable it is to accomplish 720 clinical hours within 12 months along with all of the other demands. From what I have seen ONU has one of the highest clinical hour demands.

Could you picture a student applying to medical school saying "well I just don't know how I am going to fit in all those residency hours"? How successful would they be?

I have just started applying to Olivet. I sent in my application and transcripts yesterday to begin in August. How long did it take for you to find out that you were accepted? Do you know what the average GPA that is accepted into the NP program? I have a cumulative of a 3.5 with a BSN of only 3.2. The admissions told me they look at your GPA as a whole so I may be ok?

I agree. Too many people look at being an NP like some sort of side hobby or project that they need to squeeze into their life.

Physicians and to an extant PAs put their entire lives/families on hold for years to become a provider, yet people ***** about work and family time with a measly 600 clinical hours.

I get families are a priority but do resident physicians not have families as well? If its too stressful, another career might be better option but the demanding nature of NP school should not change.

@friskee they responded to my online application the next day. I was able to fax over unofficial transcripts, and I was conditionally accepted pending my official transcript that shows my BSN conferral on 12/11/15. So it was a quick process and they are very pleasant to deal with. Your GPA sounds fine.

Could you PM me what school you go to?

Required GPA is 2.75. So i guess should be okay.

Be aware that is minimum GPA. If its a competitive program, it means little. Good luck

Also, make sure if you're out to state that your state allows clinicals to be done locally if you're attending that school. I checked with my state and the school wasn't approved there so no clinicals allowed (I took a seat in another school that was, so wasn't as big of a deal, but the school tells people oh you'll be able to do all your clinicals locally as others have done from your state...this was BS and thank goodness I do my research). Just tread carefully. Good luck!
